First of all let's all be clear that the vagina is the opening into the female body the purpose of which is for reproduction purposes. There really is never any need to use soap inside a vagina or even to douche. Gravity and the vagina's own lubrication will keep it clean. If you have an infection, the last thing you want to do is douche. Why? Because anything that is in your vagina could be forced through the opening into the uterus and from there to the Fallopian tubes infecting everything along the way.
Now if you are speaking about the area outside of the vagina, the labia, you still really don't need to use soap to wash the area. Just plain old water will do. The area is very delicate and sensitive and to use soap may cause irritation which would cause itching making you think you have to use more soap, which would cause more irritation, leading to more itching - and you get the picture.
If you have bad smells coming from your pubic area even after washing, you have something wrong and all the washing in the world is not going to help. You need to see a doctor. And as with most medical problems the sooner you seek help, the better off you will be.

I'd have to agree with the others who have recommended that you don't use soap on the female vagina or labia. These tissues are very sensitive and prone to irritation if over-cleansed.
The mildest, most natural soap would be something like Dr. Bronner's soap (usually available at health food stores) or a plain, unscented castille soap. These can be used for the whole body, including the face. However, you should use them only externally -- so not in the vagina, for sure, and only in limited amounts for the external labia if ABSOLUTELY necessary.
In some cases, you can help your body help itself by changing to all cotton underwear, and changing your underwear frequently. Most odor is caused by our clothing and not by our bodies!
I frequently review products for AllergyRelief101.com, and I know that I've reviewed some liquid soaps for the site. You can check it out for more information on which ones I'd recommend.

Go to the health food store and pick up a bar of glycerin soap. Look for one that is colourless. I think most of the glycerin soaps are unscented. If that doesn't work there are a few other natural soaps that should be available in the same aisle.
I'm chemical sensitive and it 's hard to find one that won't aggravate allergies. Good luck.

Summer's Eve has a whole big line of stuff for clean girly parts. They makes soaps and stuff that are gentle for people that are sensitive down there. From what I have heard, it is pretty good stuff. I personally use Avon Naturals on everything when I shower and never have problems.

I know that Cetaphil is recommended for eczema by my pediatrician. I'm not quite sure that it's gentle enough for the vagina. Cetaphil was recommended by a dermatologist for my infant son. It doesn't hurt to check out the ingredients on the soaps. She might have to watch out for toilet paper, sanitary items (tampons, pads), etc. I always get unscented products.
