Truth is Truth and Reality is Reality no matter any of us believe, right? We create virtual realities for ourselves with all our belief systems but Reality is as it is. Both believers and atheists create these virtual realities based on systems of thought, some of which use religious beliefs and others scientific thought. It's still not a direct experience of the answer to life and death, right? The idea of 'going somewhere' or striving to do good for a reward are all parts of an ego thought system. And so is the concept that when the body dies, the self/ego ceases to exist. Both make the case that there's this ego/self that is separate from things and either continues on in some bodyless state (with the personality still there) or ceases to exist when the body ends. There are those (from all and no religions) who have directly experienced Reality/God and the answer is beyond any of these beliefs and thought systems. But it can't be explained - just experienced. For a christian perspective, look at St John of the Cross and Meister Eckhart.

Hmm, this could be interesting, another question for atheists. Let's click on it, and hope it's not the same question asked by every other Christian...

...oh crap, it is.

*SIGH!*

I'm not dead yet, and neither are you. NO ONE has ever come back from being dead to tell any of us what it's really like, so that's no help. Oh, and stating biblical speculation as fact still does not offer tangible proof. In short, NOBODY KNOWS AND NOBODY CAN SAY FOR SURE.

Tell you what- when I die, I'll get it all figured out. But since I have better things to do while I'm HERE than ask silly rhetorical questions, it's time to make sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving!

I shall go into the Great Recycler in the earth. Nothing more... I beleive that I am a carbon based life form, and that upon death, my carbon will be reabsorbed back into earth.

I know it isnt a pretty thought.... But this is why we, as Atheists, also beleive in being good to our fellow man - because this life is the only chance we get. No second chance, no eternity. So we do it right the first and only time...

I plan on donating my body to science. Hopefully it will be of some use. As for my personality, or whatever you want to call it. It will be gone. I hope at least a few people remember me fondly. The rest of them can forget! I dont particularly want to die, as I am having too much fun, but there is no fear in it.

Well, since I am nothing more than a massive collection of atoms and particles that have coalesced over a period of years, then I would assume that I will return to that state when I die. But then, if you think about it, you don't really die, its just the atoms and particles in your body returning to a more basic existence.
As Carl Sagan once said..."From Star Stuff we came, and to Star Stuff we shall all return."

My body will be cremated because that's what I want. I'm not sure if my soul (if any) will stay in this earth or in between the real world and the afterworld. In either case I'll be gone but because I do believe in reencarnation I'm hoping Bill Gates will have kids in the future and maybe I'll be one of his. I wouldn't want to be stuck in one place for eternity! No way!

So many question marks! This must really trouble you. Well, as far as my conscious mind is concerned, it's gone. It'll be like it was being me before I was born. I didn't mind that. The rest of me will just rot away and replenish the earth. The cycle of life is clever like that. Everything is recycled in the end.

I expect to go either:

1) in the ground, 6 feet under some dirt, in a casket
2) in an urn on my kid's mantle
3) stuffed in a living room somewhere.

What happens....I die. That's it.

There is no after life, this is it for me.

What does that matter? I believe that you are asking the wrong question. Belief or not, why would that matter if you live a good and honest life. By definition, a God would NEVER want to be worshiped, otherwise he would not be a god. Jealousy and Godliness do not mix.

Be a good person and take what is given to you.

i'll go the same place you will go: six feet under. i don't mind that, it is your fear of death that leads you to delude yourself into believing in an afterlife.
i hate to be the bearer of bad news but, you better not waste your life on a fraudulent religion. when you die, it's over. stop denying yourself pleasure and make the most of life.

life is wonderful. without it you'd be dead.
