"Pride, conceit, self-esteem, egotism, vanity, vainglory imply an unduly favorable idea of one's own appearance, advantages, achievements, etc., and often apply to offensive characteristics. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect"
Here's what Proverbs says about pride:
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Prideful means to be full of pride, insolent, scornful.
The reason it is bad is because it is the pride of man to rely on himself and not recognize that man is who he is because of God, his Creator. The root of all sin is pride. This is the only behavioral choice or attitude that God says He will deal with and that man does not need to be concerned with. History is full of men who lost everything due to pride. Since this is part of recorded history and a proven fact many times over, it is a solid verification to one of the many truth claims of God that is written in the bible.
Satan has done a great job of convincing the American people that pride is okay and that it is necessary ingredient for success.

Excessive pride closes your mind. It's a key ingredient in all of the world's problems.
Imagine a world where there was no pride. Would there be war? Hunger? Poor? Nope. Doubt it. If we all felt humble, we would more likely show love towards one another.

pride is the opposite of humility and humility merely means the Truth. People who have a distorted sense of pride tend to think they are God's gift to humanity when in fact we know that is only Jesus.

that's stable/ o.k. to be proud. yet proud/delight's synonyms incorporate conceitedness and conceitedness...i'm unsure if all of us must be linked with those words nonetheless, haha. So too quite some that's a bad element. that's stable to be humble. yet maximum people who attempt to be humble are extremely incredibly prideful, ha.

Prideful in this case is an overweening arrogance in your own magnificence and how everyone else pales in comparison to you.
You are NOT better than everyone else. You need to be humble, especially before God
This is not to be confused with a satisfaction (pride) in a job well done.

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
Pride exalts self above others and / or God. Religious pride is self righteousness.
Salvation is the gift of God and not of works. So no one can boast. (I'm saved because I did this or that.).
It is also written in the bible to be a proud doer of the Word.

Because people who have pride are much harder to guilt trip and manipulate. Religions prey on fear and guilt. A person who is proud has neither of those so in order to keep the sheeple in line they tell you it's wrong to be proud.

I'm an Atheist, and I don't see anything wrong with being "prideful" to a degree. You should be proud of your accomplishments, your family, and most of all, yourself.
However, prideful can borderline egotistical if you are too full of yourself! :)
It's basically just being happy with who you are, and what you do.
Nothing wrong with having self-esteem!!

Being proud of one's achievements isn't a bad thing. Being excessively proud--hubris--can be. And Christians aren't the only ones who believe this.
