yes there is a difference! and they are not the same vegetable. sweet potatoes are darker and have a sweeter taste yams are often lighter and have less taste but are still good you just make patties with them and fry them then add butter brownsugar and pour over them.

Nothing, really. I think it might be the locality; for instance in the south we call them sweet potatoes. North, yams. Either way, they taste the same. Blessedholiday.

the yams that you find in the grocery store are just darker sweet potatoes . real yams are a lot starchier and most stores dont sell them.
