To me it means that fortitude comes from within yourself.
Think about decisions you might have to make, it is far easier to do this if you have solitude and quite to do it.
You can make good decisions, and with that comes trust in yourself.

It means, quite simply, when you are left alone with yourself then is the time you explore and discover who and what you are. We all come in here alone, completly and entirely alone, we go out the same way.
We can not identify our reason for being through anybody but ourselves. No man is an island, but, the fact remains, we are all idividual ships at sea. At the end of the day, we are all we have, all we ever did have. We all only see life through our own eyes, our strengths are our weeknesses and our weeknesses are our strengths....
Only we, are privy to who and what we are. That is what learning is all about. good question.

It pretty well says it just fine!
In solitude your mind finds clarity, and all the answers it needs. It reflects, it ponders, it expands and considers, absorbs, reflects; and it learns to use itself to learn and probably more important to trust it's own judgement. So basically it learns how to function and function well for you! :~)

When you are alone you must use your mind not some else's and all you have is yourself to depend on. When alone a person gathers their thoughts and uses their own logic to perceive the reality around them.

By using Quiet reflection, one will grow sure of oneself in one's own mind, and also gain wisdom from experience as you think on how you handled a past situation.
Good luck, grasshopper.
