Whatever you do, don't hold it in; that is the worst behavior for controlling anger, even worse than lashing out at other people you may care about.
The key to controlling anger is to release it, but on yourself (any exercise, especially running or biking for a long time) or on neutral objects (ideally a punching bag) instead of other people or valuable objects (like somebody's car).

There is an Excellent, really Excellent Best selling book out to buy, or you can check it out of a local Library, called
"Working With Anger" by Thubten Chodron.
It is so very good. I own it and put into practice its principles, which are Not difficult.
Most of all, be forgiving toward yourself and get up and continue on.
This book will Most Definately help you,
as it has me.
You asked a Very Good Question.

It depends on what your anger looks like! Are you a person who explodes when you're angry or do you tend to withdraw and sulk in your anger? Different people do different things.
If you can detect patterns and figure out what makes you angry and how you respond to it, you can start figuring out alternate ways of behaving that might be more healthy or beneficial to you (and those around you!). For example, if you know that sitting in traffic just pisses you off and then you feel the need to honk your horn at everyone, then perhaps you could think about a different route or change the times you drive?

dude i am a psychology student who wants to major in anger management.
my advice is that you address the thing or person or circumstance that triggered your anger. anger results from a frustration of something and when you will not resolve that then you would just be angered up.
other folks would also say that you direct the energy you will spend in anger into other things. like jogging or pumping muscles.
my friends would also say that for you to resolve anger then you saturate yourself in things that will most likely mak you angry. its like an innoculation stuff that the longer you are being frustrated then you got to build a tolerance for it.

walk. just keep on walking and wait for it to go away. I do that, it takes me about an hour for it to stop, then I walk back home and feel better than I used to, but still bad, but it really does help if you try walking. it's my therapy now, because I keep on feeling angry these past few days, so walking alone helps me.
