There are two extremes on this site: religious fanatics and atheists, with atheists dominating. There seems to be nothing in between. Neither group should be putting down other religions or religion itself. If you want to believe in nothing, that's fine. If you are happy with that, that's fine. But please don't broadcast it to everyone as if all religious people are morons. People seek religion to gain a sense of belonging, protection, and purpose. Devout Christians/Muslims/Baptists/Atheists-WHOEVER, you don't need to profess your faith or lack thereof as if it is the only correct way to live. I'm sick of it. I'm Catholic and I'm tired of being told that I'm a moron for believing in God. Anyone else agree?

Seems to me that atheist when they enter here and attack God or Christ is because they are really looking for him and would like to have the certainty within them that God exists. And many stop believeing in God because they are angry at him or because they prefer a disolute life, but I do agree with you.

I am a Christian, catholic and i do respect other people's point of views, of course, as long as they don't attack me personally then I will have to defend myself (intellectually, not physically). but anybody is free to believe whatever they want or not, but what nobody hs a right to do is to insult others or be uncivil.

I don't see Atheists dominating this site at all. Actually, Christians overall dominate this site in just numbers alone. And several of the Atheists I have "talked" with, only point out the Extreme religious views and how it affects ALL people, even those within the religion the Extremist follows.

Personally, I don't take offense to anyone saying I'm a moron or stupid for believing as I do. I'm a Pagan and have very odd views to religion anyway and have been called many things others would find insulting. I just don't see how anyone can be insulted by people on the net who don't even know you, know how you live, etc... Though, I do have to agree with many who point out what Organized Religion has done to people... whether it has made them Extremists or has ostracized them from their group to the point that it causes them to feel isolated from society in general. Of course, these are the 2 extremes from Organized Religion, but it seems to have become the norm in general, especially online.

I disagree,

There is a correct way to live, not to say that anyone can live their life perfectly. Religion does teach common human values, but is also 'the opiate of the masses', and is a means of artifical positive and negative consequence. This has been utilized by centuries of old to manipulate the populace into following what they want you to believe.

We in the new millenium, have replaced religion as a social control, with indulgent consumerism, which contains no ethical values whatsoever. The aethiestic arguement is, religion does contain wisdom, but the sugar coating that makes it easy to swollow, can also harm you, and others. There was a time where that sugar helped us grow as a civilization, but now it keeps us fat, lazy and stupid.

If you want to know your right, actively search wisdom on a unbiased platform, and constantly question your beliefs for validity. better yet, read some comparitive religion, and learn where catholicism came from, (the ultimate source being ancient babalyonian and sumerian). The people who do, become so shocked and disgusted by it, that they become aethiest. And ultimatly if thier dedicated to the wisdom they seek, do the right things alot more often because of it.

The truly non-denominational only stand up for themselves and explain their beliefs. The fanatics on ALL sides try to convert and put down all other beliefs, which is ignorant and egostistical.

If god is good for you, then so be it. I personally believe that there is no way of knowing it all, so I cannot say with total certainty that there is NOTHING. Call me agnostic, whatever. I simply don't believe that my fate and existence was decided by some supernatural being with a name and face.

So while I don't practice any particular religion, I do enjoy some aspects of many, such as the energy beliefs of Buddhism, the desire to "go with the flow" of Taoism, and the natural love and beauty of Wicca.

That is also why I will defend my beliefs against any who demand that I believe just as they do, or who push the scare tactics of eternal damnation out of their own ignorance. I am at peace with myself, and remain open to new ideas and ways of thinking.

For everyone: FIND WHO YOU ARE AND BE HAPPY WITH IT!

I am agnostic not an Atheist, and my beliefs are more correct then yours are or will ever be. If I say that I do not know a thing when I in fact don't, then there is no possible way for me to be wrong unless I am lying, which I am not. So stop the whining, if you don't like what you see, then don't read it. It's as simple as that. I'm not saying that my way is the "correct" way to live, but I do live in truth and that's good enough for me. Sorry you need to seek out big groups that feel the same as you do to make your self feel secure. I am proud of the fact that I don't need to do that, and as an American I have a right to express that pride.

You said:
Neither group should be putting down other religions or religion itself.
But then you put down atheists.
So, why don't you not do that and I, being neither Atheist or a hardcore Christian think the religious people on this site say the most outrageous things!

I agree, but I can also see where it comes from.

When you believe you are right you get annoyed with those who are wrong.
Put it this way, you say to someone that 5x2 is 10, and they turn round and say no it's not it's 12, and they truley believe that. You are obviously going to try and change their mind, because it's not twelve it's ten and that can be proven.

It's the same with Christians and Atheists, both think they are right and both think they can prove it somehow...Even if there way of proving it is to say it can't be proven.

Anyway, my point is, that even though you get alot of hate from both sides it's important to try and understand why that happens. Sure it annoys me when someone tells me I'm going to hell cause I don't believe, but I shrug it off because I understand why they feel that way. They think it's 10 and I think it's 12...or vice versa depending on what you believe in.

Dear kid at he:

I find in our Category, here, that the great wealth of ideas and what has been learned - is seldom shared. Rather, we shout small bytes at each other when, at least I, would prefer to get deeper into experiences and the lessons contained therein. Exploration about God is appropriate for the Religion/Spirituality Forum. Are we offering each other something of depth and richness to contemplate? Why will we not read and take in anything - beyond a small byte? And, under those circumstances, what is available to us - from each other?

While all religions represented here are shouting at each other, Atheists have violated many of us in our love - for our Creator, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I would like to address this, if I might:

Atheism has been due to, amongst a host of other "reasons," not wanting to believe in anything that can not be proven. Not wanting to be duped! Of course this leads to not acknowledging there is anything but physical matter called brain and the Intellect. Nothing more. Nothing integrated. Just Intellect.

Science has decided God can not be disproved or thrown away, after all. Physics has found itself smack up against Him and is desperate to prove Him. (String theories (all 5) or M-Theory). But I tell you, He will never be a mathematical formula unless , or until , soul or spirit-mind within, is willing to bring forth its Knowledge of its Creator (which it shares with His divine Presence) . Only soul/spirit can direct a Scientist to proper understanding of the Order of Creation. Science is, after all, inspiration - inspired to know of it's Self. But, then, at best, Science still could only offer you a cold calculation about the Created and it's Creator - with no experience of His Divine Nature; the ecstasy, the Unlimited-ness, the Unopposed force of the Creative Being, of Who we are a part.

The Intellect is of logic and reasoning. It deduces and judges. God is Knowledge and Knowing. He is spirit and Creator of spirit-minds like Himself. He is the Mind containing all cause of Life and all possible arrangements of Life.

The Great Separation also has caused a failure in our willingness - to acknowledge that behind the Intellect lies Spirit: The Seat of your Knowledge. Until you understand soul/spirit - you can not know your Self.

Intellect is a mental exercise. It changes, shifts, and alters. But, Knowledge is unalterable. . ..

The evolution of earth contains the Creator existing along with it. Integration.

Humility is often learned later in life. . ..

Best regards, Lana

You see what you did there? You said that atheists believe in nothing. Well this site is about asking and learning. And when you do stuff like that, we have to correct your ignorance. Stop being ignorant, and you won't get corrected. Know what you're talking about when you start a topic, and you'll be on safe ground. Otherwise, deal with us.

Someone had to be here to answer your question, right?

Since there are two kinds of people here, then I guess this means you are in the religious fanatic category... you should stop being so hard on yourself, ya know. Then again, maybe not.
