My DVD player has 1 left and 1 right mixed audio connection, it also has a coaxial connection and optical connection.
The sub it connects to does not have coaxial or optical, however it has six inputs 3 red and 3 white.(front centre back etc) If i connect an audio cable from the DVD player to the sub i only get sound from 2 speakers as the cable im using only has 2 jacks on each end leaving 4 inputs on the sub without any connections. Is there anything i can buy to use this sub, or should i buy a new surround system???? help

You need a decoder to convert the digital output to the channels. This is usually a part of an A/V receiver with will have speaker outputs for the front, center, and surround channels. I don't know what you mean by "sub" as that usually means a subwoofer. But a subwoofer does not handle speaker-level outputs for front and surround speakers.
