He misses his tray evertime although good on him for actually using it however the other day he peed in his own bed!! weird! he seems happy enough apart from this, loves attention, acts like he owns the place etc etc He has also pulled every wire out and chews them. What can i do?????!!!!!!!!

Wow. That's a lot of issues to have with one rescue kitty. I've listed some links below that have to do with feline behavior and common issues - I assure you that the issues you're having are common and may be related to late socialization. Best of luck to you, hope it all works out!

If you don't want to declaw him, take him to get his nails clipped so they aren't sharp any more..

At about 8 months old, I had a time keeping my young cats away from the wires too- but they got the picture after having been (forcibly!)informed that the wires are not toys.

For the chewing part, you might want to try Bitter Apple spray: At least, that's what I've seen suggested here. As well as double-sided tape on the furniture to stop the scratching.

Have you tried a tray with taller sides? And is he neutered? If he's not neuterred, take care of it. That might take care of some of your problems.

Good luck!

as for the scratching there is a product called soft claws that isn't hard to put on cats. My cat is one of the most hyper ones out there and I can get her to sit still for this every so often. They last about 2 weeks each set and he will either hate the nails more than he loves the scratching... or he will like the nails enough to wear them. Another thing you can do is double stick tape we also did this with our cat. You take a packing tape sized roll of double stick tape and put it on everything that he scratches. This frustrates the cats and they will stop scratching. Have you gotten him a scratching post? If he has one then put cat nip all over it and if its a house put food and treats inside. On the water dicipline if it dosn't do anything put vinigar in the water. Cats hate the smell and taste of it and eventually he will learn. GOOD LUCK!!!

For scratching, if all else fails, then have front claws removed. It isn't as cruel as it sounds and if he is an outdoor cat they fight mainly with their rear claws so it can still defend itself. As for not using litter box make sure tis fixed, cats are a notoriously clean animal. Keep putting him in box every day and ensure you clean it out at least twice daily or, if you can, every time cat uses it and give treats for using box if you are present. If kitty still won't use box it may be a bladder problem or it could be a behaviour problem. Rub cats nose in its own business if no effort to use box. If behaviour continues or you notice crying while urinating then it may very well be a bladder or urinary tract problem. Do not keep moving the box. Put it in one quiet, private, accessible spot and leave it there. Just don't forget to clean it. Get him some catnip toys to play with and maybe a few fish out of reach for him to watch. For chewing problems he needs an old leather type shoe -preferably with your scent- or some cat chew sticks.

As far as the scratching everything you can get these covers for their paws at http://www.softpaws.com They will cost you about $20. I use them on my cat and I love them. If you go to the site they give you great explanation on them and how to use them. I have researched declawing to prevent the scratching but I feel it is inhumaine to the cat. You can go here and read on what they do to the cats http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm
I have had a few cats and they are all different and need different discipline. You are going to have to try different things on him to see what works for him. The kitten I have now I have to treat her just like she was a small dog. He will calm down once he knows he is there to stay and that is home to him. Good Luck with him:)

#1) SCRATCHING- get the kitty declawed

#2) EGH HEM...MARKING THEIR TERRITORY- Start fresh! Train them how to use the litter box. I know this may sound weird, but I assure you, it works! Place them in the litter box, while your there, a few times a day. Once they get used to that, put them near the litter box and see if they go in on their own. If they do, give them a treat...if not, put them in the litter box. Then, once they get both of those steps, everytime the cat uses the tray, give them a treat until it becomes regular! Be patient!

Hope that helps!

Yes, cats can control their tail because their tail is part of their spine. They express their emotions through their tails as well similar to a dog.

It may take him a while to get used to a litter box, if he didn't have a proper one before he was rescued. Declawing will solve your scratching problem. Don't believe these wimps that think it is cruel to declaw. After a couple of years they forget that they don't have claws anymore and think they are scratching things anyway.
