the males are usually a lot more colorful than the females. It may not be apparent at his young age yet, as they may not get their "breeding plumage" for quite a while. Not sure exactly what type of quails you have, but this should be the case with mostly all species.

Need more specifics as to what kind, if known. Sounds like varieties of Coturnix quail who will start to lay eggs at 6 weeks of age. See my website and email me privately, there are too many questionables to discuss here easily but I will gladly help you if I can. : )

Well I think it depends on whay type of quail, but if they are mature and are the commonly kept bobwhite, then they are dimorphic. Should be easy, the boys are more strikingly marked upon the head then the drab little hens.

Talk to it in depth about the emotional merits of the film "Dirty Dancing", if it doesn't fall asleep and enjoys itself then you have a female or gay Quail on your hands.

Tickle the bottom and if it's eyes start blinking or closed, that's a female for sure.

You cant tell without medical intrusion, however the females are generally lazier and tend to nag a lot.

when it goes potty, look for a fallus (spelling?) {penis-it will pop out kinda}, if it has one, then its a male, if not, then female. also, when mature, females will start laying eggs, like chickes, even without a male around to do the deed.
