the guy i like is really shy and had been flirting with me for about a year. when i was hanging out with a group of friends, his best friend (who would obviously know in advance) asked who he liked... and he just shrugged, but i could see his face turn red. so everytime he named someone my crush would give him a look that screamed "where'd you get that from?!"... but when he came to my name, he didn't do anything. his friend didn't seem too suprised. instead, he asks me "do you want to go out with ___? i know you do... " we were all silent and i didn't know what to do- i was in a state of shock. well, the guy i liked said that his friend was just joking, but he said it with a shaky voice.
a few days went by before the guy i like started to talk to me again.
so my question is... did he ask me out?

he's a pansy. but it looks like u like pansies. he's not going to ask you out if it took a whole year. its the year 2006. just be a woman and ask his pansy *** out. im sure you'll have fun.. baking or crochetin or watever it is pansies like to do. no for real.. just ask him out. he wont say no.

well, kind of. If if he asked that, and you said you would, then he would really ask you out. It is a way of showing that he would probably want to go out with you, but is to scared to get turned down for real

No, he did not ask you out.
But from what you're saying, he obviously wanted to ask you out, but he's way too nervous to do it.
The thing he's most nervous about isn't you, it's himself. He's asking himself, "What if I ask her out and she doesn't like me?" "What if I do something stupid?" "God, I'll just die if she knows how much I like her."
He's embarrassed, shy and deep inside giddy that you know he likes you, but also scared to death.
Ummm.... His friend wasn't joking, he only said that to cover his tracks.

yes. but why not just ask him if he was sort of asking you out and if so, now you'd like to ask him out and what does he think about that?
