Im born and bred in zimbabwe and when i was young i used to get called a coloured at school but could never tell the difference between me and the rest of the black kids.If i would say you black i would get taken to the headmasters office for a good chat or a canning. Can any one tell me why mixed race people in zimbabwe are treated so badly by both the blacks and the europeans? We love our country as much as any other race and it would be great to get some answers.

Sorry to hear that! Butou not the only one!
All mixed race people go thru that.

The whites never really accept them, and because they got that white blood, the blacks may not accept you either!

But you gotta stay strong for with time, you will be accepted.

Halle Berry said the same thing, but no she is accepted by the black community like she is all black!

This is a very interesting question, apparently i am doing a research at college about these issues . Mixed races not only in Zimbabwe but all over the world suffer from what we cal ' Identity crisis' . Depending on who is influential in the family some mixed children are brought out thinking that they were blacks, some they will brought out thinking they are whites . when eventually they grow and face the world like in places like workplaces, universities etc then they suffer the above . But like what 'social science lady ' highlighted the world is coming to be Apache ( mixed race) check Brazil it is going out in the mixed race direction .

Scientifically if you have melanin or genes that cause the bio - syntheses of the above you are considered black . So mixed races are blacks . so one day the whole world will become black
I think so . .. .

Hello,

This is a very interesting question indeed. OK! in my opinion the answer here is solidly about one races views, attitudes and opinions towards another race.

This doesnt just affect your country Zimbabwe, the same can be seen in say South Africa which is a country I visited before Nelson Mandela was released, before apartied was abolished. In general terms one race fears at an extremely deep level another race (the other race is treated with fear almost as if they were aliens coming from another planet).

**Its also to do with those fears being turned into stereo types, and groups of people holding weird untrue ideas about another group (Race). Black people (black race) being seen as say lazy by the whites, which rationally we know is completely untrue. Black people can be extraordinarily hard working but the stereo type untrueth always paints a picture of blacks as lazy.

**When racial groups are polarised ie. whites on one side and blacks on the other, both these groups need a scapegoat and it often falls on mixed race people. Horror mixed race people get the worst deal why? because the are seen to represent the worst fears of both white & black ie. stereo typing again.

**This is a very hard subject to explain clearly in such a short space of time, ist an extremely complex subject.

In summary races often fear each other and have taboo's about each other, many of these are untrue and extremely irrational (make no sense). People fear what they dont know and can demonise others if they keep them at a comfortable distance.

The same problem exists in South Africa with the ANC discrimination against anything non Black. As you will know Mugabe and Mbeki are great friends so I guess it is just Black racism but hey man you have to be White to be called a racist. Black Africans are full of hatred for Whites and Coloureds but are carefull not to say so publicly in case the aid money is switched off. They are also xenophobic and many Zimbabweans and Somalis have been murdered by Black South Africans simply for not being South African.

One day the whole world will be `coloured`. people from all over the world now mix with each other like at no other time in history. We inter-marry and raise mixed race children who in turn marry and do the same. Gradually we shall all have coffee coloured skins with no worries about who is coloured and who is not.One day, you see, we really will be able to look at each other and not notice the colour of each others skin. It is less and less important and soon will be of no importance at all.

Hey bru,

I used to go to school in Brackendowns (A place in SA). It was the same there, I cant say why.
Being a white person myself we always considered coloured's to be more black and I only left high school three years ago.

Cheers
