I just dont want a girlfriend. But i am planning on getting her a christmas present, if that counts.

well...when a guy gives a girl a present it comes across as more than just a gift if you know what I mean.
Just be careful.... it's not everyday that a guy gives a girl a gift. When a girl gets a present from a guy a red flag goes up to the girl which makes her think that maybe this guy likes her as more than just a friend. And then feelings get involved and then you're asking yourself what went wrong. I know this from personal experience from my friends and myself.
Also ask yourself what you want! You are not making sense when you say that you like her but you don't want to have a girlfriend.

Honesty is the best policy,gift or no gift, if she is wanting and expecting more than just a friendship with you, you need to come out and tell her what's up. The only thing that can truly CRUSH her is if you are not truthful.
And, if you do tell her that you just want to be friends and she gets all psycho, well then you know you DEFINITELY didn't want her as a girlfriend...lol

Tell her just like you said it here -- you'd like to be friends with her but aren't looking for anyone to be your gf. You should tell her b/4 you give her the the Christmas present because girls read alot into it when guys give them things. She could easily see a gift from you as meaning she's closer to gf status than it sounds like you want her to be! So be fair to her and don't give her confusing signals.

tell her that you like her a lot asa a friend but you arnt sure that you should be "together" because then it might ruin the friendship.... get her the gift tho as a friend but get her something a friend would give another friend not a boyfriend would give a girlfriend

sounds to me u dont want a girlfriend u just want a booty call. all i have to say is it is very wrong to play with peoples emotions just be honest and hopefully if u dont want a relationship she will feel the same way

I would tell her that you really enjoy her company and that you like hanging out, but that you don't want anything to serious at this point because you are focusing on ____ (job, school, family issues..etc) but say that you would still like to hang out with her when you have free time.
