Use a pencil and out line whatever you think is important in the text, it will keep you focus. In fact, this is what suggested for SAT read passages, which are known for being boring. Besides, this will help you when you have to answer questions or reread it later.
Don't play upbeat music or music with lyrics (of course it doesn't count if it is a foreign language that you don't know).

Read so many pages at a time, like 12, highlight the important or main ideas. take a short 10 minute break here then back to reading.

Typically you should read for 15 minutes and then take a small break for 2-5 minutes. People have a tendency to start reading and then their minds waunder into something else. So take fruequent breaks to help you stay on task for the long run.

You don't have reading troubles... you just don't wanna do it.

Easiest way? Pay attention in class... listen to what the prof says... if s(he) refers to a particular topic area, make sure you know that bit. Use your headings as a study guide.

Make a plan... read a bit every night, but don't read EVERYTHING... that's a waste of study time. Reading for information and a course is different than reading for enjoyment. You have to figure out what is important... not just to the prof, but to your learning. Seriously... use topic headings and the index. Don't be afraid to skim.

If music doesn't distract you, find some with a steady beat and keep it on at a low volume. It can actually help you think. Also chewing gum is supposed to help but I haven't tried that yet.
