If I exercise enough to keep from getting overweight, and eat pretty healthy otherwise, are there any other adverse affects of a really high sugar intake?

if the constant high sugar intake is continued, a lot of people believe this will increase your risk of type-2 diabetes. Now, whether this happens in 10 years, 20 years or never is dependant on a lot of factors.

Bottom line - comsuming lots of excess sugars can play havor on your glucose/glycogen systems and stress your liver, kidneys, and pancreas and result in spikes in insulin and depressing the production of key enzymes used for energy management.

Sugar, especially refined sugar can mess with your immune system, and pre dispose you to Diabetes. Suagr substitues are even worse, they can actually cause cancer! so the real stuff is best, but in moderation, it great that you eat healthy and are at a healthy weight, and exercise, all BIG pluses, which you can allow your self an extra treat here and there, but its the chemical reaction that it causes in your body that is the problem, and it can even be addicting! Try to get most of your sugars from Fruits, and root vegatables, and healthy grains (whole wheat, spelt, sprouted grains...ect..) Then enjoy a snickers bar, a piece of pie, or a milk shake every other day

To much sugar is unhealthy. It is unhealthy for your heart and can cause irregular heart beats. To much sugar will also tire you out and ruin your teeth. Try and cut down on the sugar. Even if by only a little bit.

This will increase your chances of getting diabetes. High sugar intake requires the body to produce lagre amounts of insulin to compensate. This up and down cycle takes it's toll on the body organs that produce insulin. Eventually they become immune to the sugar trigger that tells the body to produce more insulin. This is when diabetes starts. It can come on with no warning and no symptoms. One friend of mine started losing weight, at first he was happy, but he kept on losing, so he went to the doctor, and it was diabetes!

No it wont be unhealthy.
I take loads of sugar and exercise, and am all cool!

To some, it depends on the body. Watever i eat, i never get fat so even with no exercise, i can still take loads of sugar and stay safe.
If you got a good metabolism, them you are safe to take as much as u can.

The only downside then will be your teeth! sugar is not so good on teeth! u got to brush everytime you take it.
