thought I'd give a different perspective on the word swinger
The Dodge Dart Swinger is classified as an A-body. There are several classifications that MOPAR used to describe the body styles of its cars, but there were three main body styles that were used for musclecars. The B-body, which was the larger bodystyle of the three included cars such as Chargers and Superbees. The E-body which is commonly called the MOPAR pony car, included 'Cuda's and Challengers. Now, we come to the A-bodies. The Dart Swinger fits into this category. The A-bodies were little, light, and when equipped with a V-8 were fast! Other cars that fit into the A-body category are the Duster and the Demon.
Like I said Darts were little and light. Well, not little compared to any new cars but what car in the late 60's and early 70's would be. Well, if it had a V-8 it was also very quick. This combination was a good deal. It allowed this mighty MOPAR to hang with and even out perform many of the big boys in the muscle car genre. By big boys, I mean big blocks. However, small blocks are where the Dart really starts to shine. Small blocks like the 318, 340 (my personal favorite), and even later on the 360 were potent little powerplants. These were the V-8 engine selections for the Swinger model darts. The small block gave a weight advantage over alot of cars. It was quick to accelerate, handled pretty well, and even topped out at a nicely when geared right. Earlier in the Darts timeline, before the Swinger models, big blocks were available.
The Dart Swinger model line started in 1969 and continued through 1976. The base engine for this car in 1969 was a small block 340. The Swinger model started out as an option. Much like what a GT or GTS would be on darts of the same year. In 1970 the Dart under went a change in body style. Starting in 1970 Swinger became the designation given to all two door hard top model Darts. The base engine then became the thrifty and nearly bulletproof 225 Slant six cylinder. The GTS and GT models were gone, but the 340 Swinger remained. This was the high performance model for Darts this year. The only other V-8 this year was the 318, which was only available with a two barrel. The body style used in 1970 remained until 1972 with only minor changes such as taillights and grille changes. However after 1970 the 340 was gone. Starting 1971 the 318 was the highest performance engine available. There was however a limited run of about 75 1971 Swinger 340s built for Canada only in 1971, but it was not a regular production model. By 1973 the word performance and Dart would no longer be associated with each other. You could get one with a 360, but this was far from a performance engine. In actuality the 360 was little more than a detuned truck motor.

either couples who swap partners... or someone who likes the vintage lifestyle of the 40's and 50's. Also called the playboy lifestyle, picture Dean Martin, martinis, pin-up girls, and vintage rockabilly wear.
Not all "swingers" are into swapping.... some just love that era.
I have a bunch of friends who live as if they are stuck in that era, it's actually interesting, kind of a pop-culture fetish.... but their's is mostly clothing, music and home decor, I gotta say that retro look is really cool...especially when you see how much time, energy, money, and research go into keeping up the appearance of that era.
That kind of swinger is cool..... swapping is gross.... besides who wants someone else's used..... well..... you get the point.
