Everyday I pack him his lunch for school. Of course I alternate from bologna to ham, and sometimes give him lunch money if he does not want another sandwich. Along with his lunch, I pack him a fruit and another snack like cookies or chips. I always make sure he eats before he goes to school. He is ADHD, so I know that his medication would will give him loss of appetite. This week, he has been going to the nurses office after lunch complaining of a headache, and he has not eaten lunch. This makes me furious becuase I know I make him lunch every morning, and it makes me confused because he lied about not having any food. He already is a picky eater- does not like veggies, or chicken. I have a hard time feeding him. He loves any pasta, mac & cheese, Alfredo sauce, grilled cheese, and burgers, and certain kinds of chicken nuggets. I don't understand what compels him to tell the school that he has no food for lunch. The school calls my husband & I to question us. Why is he doing this?

May be you give him things like chocolate, sweets, crisps, etc that kill his appetite! He might have a friends thats got those things, or drinking loads of fizzy drinks. Or i it the money you give him that he uses to buy stuff that fills his stomach?

Or it could be that lunch time is when he gets time to play the way he wants to!

And the headache is definately hunger. i always get headaches when I dont eat.

Best solution if I was the Parent, woud stack him at breakfast.
Force him to eat as much as he can, and if he eats more smaller things, he will be okay. and when he comes back in the evening, you can give hm the reall food he likes.

2 of my 3 kids are autistic, one of which is also ADHD. It's entirely possible that his lunch is being stolen or extorted by a bully or bullies; same with the money. Where does the food go" Has anyone found his lunches somewhere, anywhere? Tell teacher to check garbage cans in class room etc for lunches. If the lunches are simply disappearing he's either eating them and lying about it -always possible for attention- or there is a serious bully problem there. What about the lunch money? Do you ever find it? Ask him where he spent it and on what. Ask him what he does with lunches. His answers should give you clues. Try sending something you know he'll love and see what happens.

kids are all picky if he likes pasta then pack him some cold pasta or grilled cheese, the problem is that if you only alternate between bologna and ham he is probably getting bored of the food, to kids lunch is a time to show off food as well as eat it. i remember when i was a kid all the "cool kids" had soup or warm food in a thermos or those lunchable thingys. so what im trying to say is that your son is just probably bored of the regular cold cut sandwich and maybe he would like food in a thermos

Maybe he wants attention or is trying to get out of class? I think that could be possible but is unlikely. Talk to the doctor...he could be experiencing loss of appetite. Has he lost weight recently? There are many different medications available for ADHD, ritalin is NOT the only one. Or his dosage could be changed. BTW ritalin can cause headaches, too. If he just doesn't like the food you're packing...take him shopping with you and let him pick out a few things. But first, go to the doctor, Ritalin has some serious side effects and you should definatly get this checked out.

sounds like he is at that age of testing and learing.
if his issue is not medical related, i would not worry about it so much.
sounds like his body is craving high calorie food and carbs.
the headache may be related to dehydration. most people do not know that they are dehydrated.

You need to ask the school to help you by watching him. Give his lunch to the school nurse and ask her to give it to him, that way they know that you are really trying. Worth a shot to ask them, I think.
