My boyfriend and i are planning to go to Bangkok early Jan next year. What "must see & do" touristy things should we do? Are there anything in particular we must be aware of or rather beware of? Any particular great places to shop??

Any advice will be helpful
Thank You!!!

Great choice of place. You must go visit the Grand Palace and the famous Wat Prakaew (temple) that adjoins the Palace. You can also visit Wat Po, which is nearby there. Go to the Erawan Shrine on Rachthevi Road near the Chidlom BTS Skytrain Station. For nightlife entertainments, you can try Silom area, where there are many small bars and clubs as well as shopping market in the evening. Suan Lum Night Bazaar is definitely a place to visit for shopping, food and drinks. MBK and Siam are places to shop and they are easily accessible with the BTS Skytrain system. Patunam and Platinum Plaza are wholesale markets so you get really really cheap stuff. China Town and Khao San area (backpackers) are also places to go. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

A visit down the Koh San Road is always fun - this is where all of the backpackers hang out and you will meet loads of people. there are lots of stalls down there which sell loads of different things, places to eat and drink etc.
I think its called Chatachak - its a huge market, seriously massive, but it gets quite hot as its in the day so take some kind of fan to cool you down - i cant remember the number of stalls but you'll be amazed and its so cheap! you can get there by underground or air train - a guide book should fill you in.

You should also visit the Grand Palace, it is amazing, very beautiful! you should definitely be aware that there are lots of people who hang around outside telling you that the palace is closed for prayer time and to try and go with them on a tour - DO NOT go with them, its a con, they'll take you to their friends carpet shop and make u give them money! you do need to make sure you cover up you shoulders when you are visiting anywhere religious!

Dusit Zoo is also quite a nice place to go, the cheapest zoo i have ever been to! Also a tip is if you are sight seeing in the day you can leave your luggage in left luggage at train stations - saves ypu carrying it around!

have a fab time, i love Thailand!

Most of Bangkok's sights are concentrated in the "Old City" on Rattanakosin Island. Out of Bangkok's many temples, the following usually make the top 3:

Bangkok is an extremely popular place for all sorts of pampering. The options available range from massages and spa treatments to haircuts and manicures and even cosmetic surgery, all at prices far lower than in the West.

Sawasdee Khrap,
Bkk great city!!!!! I suggest staying near banglampoo where u can take short trip to Palace and large temple (sorry forget the name of it). Then you can shop / eat / drink at kao San road which is also in Banglampoo and full of travelers, great atmosphere. Avoid site seeing around midday due to the heat. Head to Patpong which is taxi drive from Banglampoo and take in the Night market there, caution this is also the original red light district , but great athmosphere none the less. No trip complete without taxi boat up the river. If your there on Sat and Sun check out Chatachuk north of the city and on the skytrain line, this is the weekend market and also famous for being the largest market in the world, maybe too big. Siam in centre is also good for shopping, MBK for relatively cheap stuff and Paragon for top of the range. Take in a Muay thai fight (Thai boxing) also , think there are 2 stadiums around the city so check in advance where its at. All taxis in tourist areas quote a price, so try get one that uses the metre as the quote is usually 2 times higher than the metre. Beware of any one who wants to practice their english with you, they are trying to scam money some how, best ignore them. BKK really class city and certainly one of the safest cities ive been to. If you are traveling around thailand then heading back to BKK to fly home i suggest you leave bkk to the end of the trip as its eassier once youve climitised somewhat to the heat. Oh theres also a wholesale market in chinatown where you can get cheper everything, not many tourists go there. have fun,

Yes I know Thailand quite well.
Catch the bus from Bangkok to Pattaya, which has the walking street. There is a market and lots of bars.Catch a boat to Coral Island beach.
Its pure paradise, You can purchase fresh pineapple and eat it on the beach.Their boats have glass bottoms and you can participate in watersports.

Check out Pratunarm [not sure of exact spelling] It is one of the biggest street markets ever.It takes around 3 hours just to get down it.The Thais will try and rip you off, remember that their average wage is £15 per month. They have 2 prices,Thai price and Phelang price. All Europeans are Phelangs.
Most Thais hate black people and are racist-They see white English people as gods-To them we are rich.

Check out Silom Road, There is a great Irish pub near Robinsons stores.Beware though English booze is quite expensive,

If you are travelling through Dubai airport avoid the duty free, get it in Thailand as it's cheaper. There is a pub in Dubai airport and a Bacardi Breezer is £5

Check out the shopping center near the World Trade center, There is also a planet hollywood nearby.

Do not take a tuk tuk, you will be able to afford a cab wherever you go as it's pennies to us.Just make sure its a taxi meter and he starts it at 0

Thai people don't like to see women smoke and everyone worships the king. The king is everything to them, so much so that he drives a rolls royce-No one else in Thailand can have one as it's disrespectful to him.

Visit Koh Samui and if you want a cheap good hotel check the mayflower in Rama iv. Its one of the safest hotels I know.

Don't drink too much on the plane and take barley drops for your landing on the flight as it does hurt your ears.

You will have a great time it's amazing.

-make sure the bottled water you buy is sealed the people refill the bottles
-never pay full price for anything you should be able to get it for 3/4 of the price. it is all about bargining.
-this sounds kinda weird but make sure you take tampons cause i ran out while there and it was a waste of time to track them down and took a while to find them
-ride a tuk tuk they are so much fun, be sure to nogiate there!
-always take meterd taxis otherwise they will rip you off
-go to flea markets
- take a long boat ride! on the canals it is just like venice dont wear your best clothes on it though cause you do get quite wet sometimes
-make sure you take stuff that goes past your knees! i did not take enough that went past my knees and it was a problem for all of the temples you are not allowed in if it is above your knees also you must have your sholders covered for most temples and places.
-use the skytran it is a big time saver there are major trafic jams there
-go to a monk chat we did it and i thought it was pretty cool
-be careful not the touch the monks(women) they are veryyyyy cautious of that
- go to an elephant conservation camp
-be careful of the red light districts, your bf especially

hope this all helps you will have a great time i am sure!

1. Take a taxi meter / don't negotiate price with any drivers
2. Don't trust Tuk Tuk Drivers, they get pay for accompanying U to jewel shops, U can't follow these guys so pls concern about this. U wound enjoy taking Tuk Tuk but for normal transportation, pls take either Taxi Meter or Public Train Services.
3. If U plan to stay during week end, try visiting Chatichak Market, there U could spend almost one complete day just for shopping. U should negotiate for a discount for every item U buy.
4. Keep having concious with your wallet, put it safe!

Finally, enjoy Thai food so

Regards,
