In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Honestly, no.
You'll see answers saying that God is all good, love, whereas Satan is all bad, evil, hatred, etc. However, this is not the case.
Take a look at God in the Old Testament. Here, it's hard to differentiate between the two. For example, God sanctioned the usurpation of the land of Canaan and the killing of its inhabitants by the Israelites. If God is all love, shouldn't he love the Canaanites, just as much as the Israelites? I'm afraid not.
Furthermore, God gave Satan permission to test Job. God basically let Satan destroy this man, his family, and his life. How would an all loving/good God let such an atrocity occur?
Some contemporary Christians will say "wait, Jesus did away with the Old Testament and replaced it with the New Testament".
This is fallacious. Jesus said ''Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. Until Heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:17-18).
I recommend reading the whole Bible, from the Book of Genesis all the way through to the Book of Revelation. Notice how God is not an all loving/good God, but a God of a dichotomous nature: both good and evil.

You know this question is a question I never thought I would answer. But thinking about it, sometimes you really don't know who is who by their work. I am a Christian, but I do know that God allows Satan to punish us. When we are receiving that punishment, it does cross your mind if their is a God, why is this happening to me. At times it makes people think how can there be a God that allows tremendous things to happen in this world. I know that most Christians tell you or say, my faith never waivers, but I say it does, because God gave us free will, and we do think for ourselves. When tragedies happen to people, Satan is there to disrupt your thoughts, that is when your faith waivers. I can go on and on, but I will end with this, the answer to your question, is no, It all depends on the faith you have for Jesus Christ, that allows you to understand that God will not give you anything you cannot handle. On the order side, there are Christian, that blame God for what happens to them, and only when they understand that this was something God permitted, do they repent and ask God for forgiveness.

or you could stick your head out the window..look around, and see that somethings just happen, for whatever reason. Christians are so caught up "with the LOVE of their GOD" that anything bad couldn't possibly come from him and must come from Satan.
Why are GOD and SATAN rooming in the same area??...ie ST Judes hospital..one child dies from his/her cancer...next room over a child the same age lives and recovers from his/her cancer...do they think this is a tit-for-tat game with innocent lives?? Or could someone just except the fact that one child had, by nature or through medicine, a better immune system....or one didn't...why does religion ALWAYS have to come up? I think that most human minds are trained from birth that we must believe in something better..or be persecuted..I don't think the majority of people could handle strict truth with no sugar...so is religion really that bad?

Apparently not. I have read a book about the horrors and atrocities that God has done, it's called the Bible, I didn't see in the bible that the Devil did anything as bad. I didn't even read in the Bible where the Devil had even killed anyone, but the bible is full of stories where God had killed, and most of the time when he did kill, it was a lot of people all at once.

If you're going by what Christians say, God says nice things and Satan, well, doesn't.

Yes.
John 8:42-45
42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me; for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. 43 "Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. 45 "But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.
