I found a 32" LCD tv for $500, but it only has 720 not 1080. is that a big deal?

The difference only emerges when you play a 720p resolution video on the 720p and then a full hd 1080p resolution video on the 1080p, the difference is significant. Most comparison i have been shown however, run the same video with the same 420p or 720p res on two sets, and this will obviously produce a near identical image on both sets(upconversion isn't all its hyped up to be) But teh answer is YeS, YeS, and a million times YeS. That's why they produced the new technology, that's why it costs so much more.

At the present mainly if you're trying to watch HD DVD. Eventually, all broadcasts too will use the1080p scan rate.
The video experience will blow you away.

However, until then, $500 for a 32" sounds like quite a deal.
Make sure the picture quality is OK.

The only time I ever noticed a difference was on 50+ inch screens. Even then the difference wasn't that great...to me anyway. Others will say they notice a huge difference. 720p is fine for me.
