You might not have held it down for 12 seconds, but, instead you might have pressed shift 5 times, which activates sticky keys, if your shift button is now acting like a caps lock key and screwing up your numbers as well, you should just be able to press shift 5 times again and choose to deactivate sticky keys.
That's the best I can guess with the limited info your giving, If you can give me more details as to how your computer is messed up, then I can try to figure out a better solution.

Unless you pressed another key with the shift key, holding it for 12 seconds or more should have no affect on your computer.
