Well, Mark, there's no uniform perspective on the afterlife among Christians. I'll give you my perspective, which is that of an evangelical, non-denominational Christian. I believe that 2 Corinthians 5:8 tells us the souls of believers will go to Heaven immediately after death and we will retain consciousness at all times. An unrighteous person who has not accepted Jesus Christ goes immediately to a place Jesus called "torments" after death (Luke 16:23). The unrighteous dead also retain full consciousness. At the Rapture of the Church, the bodies of the righteous will be resurrected and reunited with their souls, which are in Heaven (1 Thes. 4:13-16). Upon being resurrected, these bodies will be made immortal. These immortal beings will co-rule with Jesus as kings and judges (although some will serve as priests or teachers), over those who survive the 7-year Tribulation and their future children (Rev. 6-19). Jesus will hold an absolute monarchy, however. There will be no kings higher than He.
The souls of the unrighteous remain in "torments" for 1,000 years after Jesus Christ's return to earth; at that time, their bodies are also resurrected, reunited with their souls and they are judged by Jesus according to the works they have done. This is known as the "Great White Throne Judgement." Since no one can be justified without faith, all are thrown into the "Lake of Fire," which I believe destroys the person forever; other Christians believe the punishment goes on forever, but I disagree with this. (See Rev. 20:11-15).
I am very involved with God; I view my relationship with God to be intensely personal and I feel as if He's more than a Master to me -- I feel He's my friend, too; I read the Bible daily, pray many times in a day (spontaneously, not at a set time), and evangelize to non-believers when I get the chance. I attend Church at least once per week; twice if I'm in need. I occasionally serve on the telephone prayer line for my Church, which has two nationally televised tv shows per week. I have a secular job, although I have been praying for a new job with a Christian mission or other type of employer.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more information, I wasn't sure how detailed you wanted me to get.

My name is Yahya, and I am 20. Well afterlife in islam, is very important. Muslims belive that there will be a day of judgement. When everyone is brought to life, and will be judged by their deeds and sins whether they enter heven or hell. I attened prayer a lot. I live pretty close to my mosque and try to attend 3 times a day. And I attend every friday for the sermen. When there are lectures at the mosque I attend those a lot, and I go there to hang out and play basketball a lot. When i dont pray at the mosque i complete the rest of the daily 5 prayers at home. I had a summer job at the mosque where i would teach the younger kids in summer program two years ago. On saturday mornings at about 5 am i go to a quran class to learn the quran more indepth by a scholar. Muslims need to memorize part of the quran to recite the prayers. So most muslims have memorized part of the scriptures, some have memorized the complete Quran. I hope I answered all your questions well, and good luck on your paper.

I am Christian 22years Female
I work (I mean unpaid position) in the Church as senior youth leader - Monday Nights (I prepare for them and run 1/2 hour bible study and activities.
I go to church every sunday (most twice) (Don't forsake the fellowship of the saints Hebrew 10:25)
I attend midweek Bible study every week (during the school term)
I can't attend the organised prayer meeting as I am work.
I pray regularly (like at least every hour) and read the Bible every day.
I can quote Scripture - I was using 2 Tim 1:7 to overcome a severe snake phobia, and God is blessing me and it is going I can now watch snakes on Telly (when I know they are coming up) Hallelujah Praise the Lord.
Salvation - Is through relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, Heaven - is a wonderful place filled with Glory and Grace, I get to go their for being a servant of God, and having relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, in heaven their will be no tears, no sickness, and you know what we can begin Heaven here on earth by binding what God says is not in Heaven, and Loosing what is loose Heaven- I want to experience more of heaven on earth, right now.
(how will you pick best answer as they are all "opinions"?)

In regards to your seeking the "Christian" perspective on the belief of the afterlife ...
You are aware that there are 2 types of any religion, aren't you? The real thing, and those professing to be the real thing. So ... are you looking for the Bibles view of afterlife (which true Christians teach), or the psuedo Christian's beliefs (which are totally different,, as they are based on other than the Bible)? The following articles will explain many of their differences ...

Mark,
1) Christian, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Bible is the Word of God.
2) Salvation is a gift, it can not be earned. It is by faith we receive salvation.
3) We believe in Heaven and Hell.
My beliefs are the core of who I am. They shape me, my thoughts and actions. I am very involved. I attend church Sunday and Wednesday but I'm a Christian everyday of the week. What I learn from daily bible study, prayer and messages given at church, I apply to my daily life.
I don't work in the church, however I do volunteer time for ministry. It's for the great commission. (Telling the Good News of Jesus Christ.)
Christianity isn't a religion in the sense of "religion." Religion is man's way of trying to reach God.
Relationship is God's way of reaching us, through Jesus Christ.
The two greatest commandments given are 1) Love God the Father will all of your heart, soul and mind. 2) Love one another as Jesus has loved us.
My name is not important, only that I am Serving Lord Jesus. My age...just put 30 something.
Hope that helps!

Muslims believe that if u do good as a muslim u'll go to heaven. simple. if ur not born as a muslim but sometime in ur life u hear about the religion of islam or see a sign of Allah, than u'll be accountable for not becoming a muslim on the last day of judgement. but if ur not born as a muslim and never hear of islam in ur whole life, than u'll be dealt with ur own beliefs on the last day. so theres a chance that u can go to heaven without being a muslim.
I attend my local mosque regulerely. but i dont work there. I also try my best to educated people of Islam and that not all muslims are "terrorists" just like not all jews are the same or like all christains, or atheists. i dont feel like telling my name but im 14

These three scriptures are the ones I cherish. They have all brought me very close to God and to Jesus and each of them has their own personal meaning for me: "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart". (Jer 29:13) "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure". (Mat 11:25) "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid". (John 14:26)
