I'm pretty sure it's two litres (about four and a half pints) per day.
What I do, as a cyclist and alcoholic, is drink half a pint every morning when I wake up, a pint out of my sucky bottle during my morning six-mile commute, the same again on the journey home and maybe half a pint before bedtime if I remember. The rest of my water intake, I get via the several cups of tea I drink throughout the day. Not great, but the liver's happy enough!

Its only 2 litres. All that talk of 10 pints or more would probably cause your body to go into osmosis (organ drowning!) well only if you try to drink it all at once, that is.
You can opt for the very specific "2 litres a day" approach or the more vague "8 glasses of water" approach (average glass, whatever that may be) Or a more easily measure and therefore useful rule of thumb is to drink a glass of water for every hour you are awake
200-250ml i.e. quarter of a liter times 8 equals 2 litres. It is also better for you if you space it out instead of trying to drink the remainder from your daily quota last thing at night, then getting up to go to loo all night!!
Another rule of thumb - if your moth feels tacky, your body is 5% dehydrated!
P.S. Just got a new fridge that produces crushed ice and filtered water - has definitely encouraged me and kids to drink more of it as it tastes so much better than tap or bottled water.

Usually the health experts say eight glasses a day. i have recently heard that this can be too much, so I sympathise with your confusion. I was advised to try and drink two litres a day. Easy in hot weather but i hardly touch it now. One thing I learned is not to drink water with meals, but before or after and at night. Often when you feel like eating, you should try a glass water first to see if you're really just thirsty.

you are recommended to drink two litres of water a day,but this depends on your weight, height, build, etc, the body can survive on a lot less water, and don't forget that there is water in milk, juice, tea, beer, and most other drinks, and remember to take those amounts off your two litres a day limit whenever you have a glass of tea etc, if you buy bottles of water in 2litre bottles then you will find it easier to keep track of how much water you have drank, and don't worry the two litres a day is only a guideline.

The minimum u should drink is 2litres(don't understand pints!) of water a day- more when its warm & more when u exercise. 1litre for every hour of exercise u do. I think excess water can flush out vital salts so u should drink stuff like some nice sugary Lucozade when ur active!

There's really no truly recommend amount of water. The 8 glasses of H2O is pretty much a myth. You should be drinking enough water where you're going to bathroom about 5-6 times per day. Your urine should be the color of straw to lemonade. If it darker than that, it means you're dehydrated. Better to stick with clear fluids, but if you must coffee and sodas are okay, as long as you drink them in moderation. One soda and two cups of coffee a day.

At least 8, 8 oz. glasses of water (not tap water) a day. I drink 12, full 8 oz. glasses of water a day. And always 1 full 8 oz. glass of water before I eat a meal. Keeps one eating at Moderation.
