He needs the break. He is selfish, and I want to "break" to see if he misses me and if he really wants "us." Thing is, if I say we need a break, he'll get angry and think I mean break up. I want the outcome to make him want to spend more time with me, be more affectionate, and more open with his feelings. I know I can't make him want or do those things, but at least we would both know what he wants, right? Is there any other way?

I've already told him countless times about quality time and being affectionate. In person, on the phone, text messages, emails- should I just pull away? I mean, like not be available, not ask questions, act like it doesn't bother me? I don't know what else to do...Thanks in advance

I'm an older woman. You should tell him exactly what you wrote here. you can't make anybody change or act a certain way. You have to accept them for who they are or move on. Tell him your feelings so both of you Will know what you want.

To avoid him thinking the wrong way of why you want a break. Just tell him how you feel.Tell him you want him to to spend more time with you, be more affectionate, and be more open with his feelings or else you will need a break if he doesn't change.

you can't have it both ways. commit to one decision or the other. a break IS breaking up. if things aren't making you happy right now. maybe you and he do need to take a break. that doesn't mean that you can't ever get back together.

Either talk to him about your concerns, leave town for awhile, or stop answering phone + emails etc for awhile and see what happens. OR drop him and find a bf that is more of what you described...affectionate etc.

a break might eventually lead to a full break up. you can try it and see how it works, maybe you will fall in love again and maybe you will meet someone else who will give you what you need.

Just be yourself. Be honest with him. Tell him what you just said.

If he break up with you, he isn't right for you anyway. You sound like a nice and smart person. You deserve better.
