I have a 14 lb turkey and need to know how many loafs of bread I need to dry out so that I can stuff the turkey. WE are having 8 people for dinner.

Well, the rule of thumb is 1/2 to 3/4 cups of stuffing mixture per pound of turkey. I'd go with 1/2 cup to allow plenty of room for expanding and good heat circulation so that the stuffing gets cooked thoroughly, thereby KILLING bacteria. don't let people scare you from stuffing the turkey. I've been eating stuffing out of the bird for 30 some years now, and I've never once gotten sick. Now you don't need 7cups of bread crumbs, because remember, you'll have broth and egg and celery and whatever else your particular recipe calls for. Its 7 cups of mixture that you'll need. You'll have plenty for your guests and probably some left overs as well.
Happy turkey day!!!

1 loaf will suffice remember with the egg and other ingredients as well as basic swelling it will more than double in size. Do not pack the stuffing in the bird make sure you have at least 1/2 inch clear for expansion that way it cooks completely.
