I think it would, less renters, less compition. Also I have seen what some illegal immigrants have done to rental properties, so there would be less upkeep on properties.

Affordable rentals is a direct function of availability and totally unnecessary government control.

Availability? Stupid special interest land use law prohibits a person with a large lot from installing a mobile home or two and renting it out as a suppliment to retirement income. Millions of new rentals would be available nationwide if these draconian laws were repealed. Don't look for that anytime soon, the apartmernt house owners associations are sending the legislators on regular paid vacations to Mustang Ranch (or whetever). THIS is the root of the problem.

I used to live in a complex that rented to illegals all the time. They sign a lease with these illegal southern border crossers after they handed them a huge $3,000.00 deposit. The leasing agent gets to keep that money...they just put down ont he paperwork they accepted $400.00 deposit or whatever the deposit runs for that unit, and they put down that they saw their social security card and drivers liscense etc. This is also what they do to problem tenants that have tons of evictions on their credit, give the cash and you get handed keys to an apt no problem

I dont think it would ever be enforceble (showing proof of citizenship ) because of the greedy landlords taking bribes from the illegals.

Not likely. Rents are up in response to real estate rates going up, supply issues are only a small part of the factor, greed is the greater portion of the reason reates are so high.

What will happen is legals will rent the apartment and sub out to illegals, or a quiet industry of charging illegals a few hundred to rent an apartment for them.

These laws will just create an innovative way around the laws, it won't address the problem.

No, its false simplistic logic your locking out legal Americans requiring extra documentation their are Americans who don't own a driver license that don't drive a car would be locked out of renting without going to the state to get a id. Its actually discrimination and the courts will block the law to take affect. Rent costs are more distorted by people getting section 8 assistance and are American citizens be better off giving them 6k to 10k a year in Cash instead of section 8 crap. Its the non-market items that drive up rents costs. Legal person gonna rent for the migrants anyways, and a person will roommate with a migrant to get around the renting rules. Competition is determined by supply and demand, and cities are driving up rent with zoning, and set back rules make it next to impossible to build affordable housing. Having to show id for everything to buy is taking freedom away people gotta think about freedom vs security, and I rather have freedom than too much security that makes it next to impossible to be flexible.

No, I think it will make no difference. First, responsible landlords have been asking for things like Social Security cards and ID to verify identity for purposes of credit checks for years now.

Second, most illegals wind up crashing at the home of someone who is legal, leaving 10 people to live in a space meant for three.

I don't know about reducing rent, but it would be a good step toward controlling illegal immigration. The illegal immigrants will not be able to stay here if they cannot find someplace to live.

No the owners will continue to price gouge on about their merry way just like business as usual.....Why do you guys think that some minor law is going to change our immigration problem....

I dunno, if anything I suspect the rents may go up some in places where landlords may have become accustomed to renting to illegals, because now they will want to compensate for their reduced tenancy potential. It's going to be an interesting thing to watch though.

So what you are saying is that everyone must carry around their birth certificate or American Passport to show proof that your legal in the USA. I mean because that's what it boils down too we cannot discriminate because of sex, color or ethnic background.

Less competition.....are you serious. Oh and have you seen what some "homegrown Americans" have done to rental property.

Oh and PLEASE tell us ALL how you knew that a "unkept and destroyed" home was inhabited by an illegal.

GROW UP

Oh and my answer............rent will NOT BE affected by any of this silliness.
