The flavor will be the same, but the texture wil not. The water bath lets it cook slowly and gently, w/o hot spots. You will find it has a firmer and crumblier texture w/o the water bath.

It may not gel - the bath allows the pudding to cook evenly and the caramel to separate appropriately. If you do not use the tried and true technique you can not be assured of result.

it till..but it will be more like a hard piece of egg...the water softens it andkeeps it moist...you need to do it with water..or else..u might as well not do it
