Because religion is full of contradiction, to start with. The idea of God to explain the things we don't know began thousands of years ago and it's outdated in today's society.
I know and accept that there are things we don't know and never will know or understand, and I put my faith into things more solid than God.
I respect religious people, and I am a kind and loving person to anyone, unless they give a reason for me not to respect them. I think religion is a deep and very personal thing - and religions fighting over their differences is sad but, by the very nature of religion, unavoidable - so the best I can do is just stay out of it.

Yes, I am. Im an atheist because I simply do not believe in anything that is superstition. Religion has not been around forever and was basically created by man 5000+ years ago. During the age of the dinos(man were not around) there was obviously no religions. If you believe in evolution than you would relize that our ancestors were agnostic and depended on survival rather than some belief. Its obvious that religion is used to keep people peaceful and supress them for royal purposes. Everything leads me to believe all religions are human made since most of them do not share a common belief and is always changing with the times.

No, I'm a non-theist, although this stance probably holds for most atheists who just don't know the term, and it's close enough that I thought I'd share.
Technically, we are all children of science (we're communicating over a connection of computers not possible without science), and all of our verifiable knowledge of the Universe (including our medicine) has been forged with the scientific method, which requires evidence and skepticism.
I simply apply that technique to religion/God.
There is no evidence for religion/God (besides the religion's own texts, which are part of the religion and therefore not justification for the religion). There is no proof for the existence of any god. There is also no proof for the non-existence of any god.
Scientific skepticism wins. The concept of any god is scientifically unfalsifiable, and therefore able to be discarded (which is what non-theists do). The burden of proof is on the believer, and not the skeptic, so I'm justified in my position.
To recap, I am a non-theist and don't think the concept of a god is scientific. To me, it's the same question as the existence of Santa Clause.
It's a wonder to me that this is not the position of the majority in this enlightened day and age. People seem to prefer the scientific method when it gives them medication and conveniences, but not when it attacks their own beliefs.

I do not believe in a god or gods. To me, there is nothing to indicate that religion is anything more than the creation of people. However, I support every person's right to choose for themselves, and further I believe that religion exists because many people need those beliefs in order to live lives of meaning. I feel confident in determining my own meaning for my life. One that is moral, loving and filled with integrity.

I am an agnostic atheist. I do not believe in God but I accept that I could be wrong. Can't prove it one way or the other.
This is the belief that gives me peace.

No, I'm a Christian but everyone has a right to believe or not. The more Christians that preach the more we will be hated.
