I'm presently taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg daily and don't feel like it does the job. But...I know Effexor is hard to quit taking once you've started. Is it worth the "addiction?"

I had been on Effexor for quite a long time - and it's not that hard to get off. It's only hard if you aren't well enough to come off it. It works well and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It does take 6-8 weeks to have any effect though.

I would talk to your doctor before changing medications, especially this type.

Wellbutrin has a different absorption site than Effexor, Wellbutrin is absorbed from the GI tract while Effexor is absorbed orally (meaning saliva breaks the medication down and the glands in your mouth deliver the medication instead of the GI tract), so the medication gets to the nervous system faster.

Effexor does increase blood pressure, so if you have a history of high blood pressure your doctor may not prescribe it to you. One of the adverse reactions of Effexor is also decrease libido, increase thyroid, uric acid, glucose, and cholesterol.

Again, I would talk this over with your doctor who prescribes Wellbutrin.
