How did it turn out? I am wondering if it is safe to slow cook my turkey in the oven, perhaps at about 250 degrees for like 6 hours or whatever. Any suggestions?

slow cooking is the best but make sure u keep putting the dripping on top and you can also insert it in to the turkey so it will be super tender i did mine like that last year i cooked my turkey for 8 hours

NO! Don't slow cook it. Slow cooking a turkey only makes the fat layer (flavor) roll off and dries out the meat. Start your turkey in a 500 degree oven for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, cover the breast with foil and knock the temperature down to 350 degrees. for a 14 lb turkey it should take about another 1 1/2 hours up to 2 hours. You need to use a probe thermometer and stick it in the deepest part of the meat. the turkey is down when it his 161 degrees. Don't pay any attention to the pop up thermometer inside the turkey. It will pop up and tell you it's done, but when it does the dark meat will be perfect, but the white meat will be dry as a desert. Also, DO NOT baste the turkey. If you keep opening the oven it will just increase cooking time, and besides, basting does nothing for flavor or keeping the bird moist. Save all the basting juices for the gravy.

I would also recommend brining the turkey. This brings tons of flavor to the bird.

Sure, it's safe! As long as the temp stays above 180º or so in the oven, yoour turkey will be fine. Put it in tonight! :-)

I'd suggest raising the temp to 400 or so the last 3o minutes to get hte skin crisp and brown, ifnot already.

I'd also keep it covered loosely in foil during the night, remove in teh AM.

And use a meat therm to tell when the thigh reaches 160º adn the turkey is done!

Did one on the grill (covered) years ago. It was GREAT but don't remember how long it took.
