Goose down comes from geese. The quality determines the location the down is taken from the goose. The most expensive down is from the underside of the goose. The cheaper down is from the back and side area.

There not all goose down, but the one that are fill with down come from ducks and geese. Under a gooses feathers is a soft fuzzy type feather call down.

Not all down is goose down. Perhaps what many people are looking for is eiderdown, which comes from the eider duck. Remember the old Dick Van Dyke show where he got stuck with “cheap chopped chicken feathers”? Obviously, if you buy down, you sure hope it's not coming from a chicken.
