I usually lie my head off, unless it's somebody important to me, like a prospective employer.
But even then I would refuse to answer some questions, politely, but firmly.

Some people think that withholding the truth is the same as a lie, but not everyone is entitled to the entire truth or every detail of our lives. Whats none of their business is none of their business. So just say its personal and you'd rather not discuss it.... simple as that.

You can either ask to change the subject or just say I really dont wanna talk about it...either way its your choice to answer it or not so dont feel bad if you dont wanna answer it!!! your business is your busnass!!!!! as far as the honesty the only person you need to be honest with is yourself and if you can support the things youve done who cares what others think!

Say I dont know with a slight smile. That response is enough to keep them guessing.
Usually if you take the high road which is "I am not at liberty to discuss this matter" ( which is true) the person you told it to automatically dislikes you intensely and you do not need their bad vibes.

Ask them another question in response- a polite question of course. Continue until they come to their senses.
