Bacteria breeds when it is left on the counter. If you need to quick thaw, use the microwave. I have also done it by placing meat in ice cold water...it take a while but is safer than leaving it on the counter.

Because it gets all of the meat below the freezing point without any of it getting warm enough so that bacteria can grow rapidly. Thawing it on the counter can let the outer part of the meat get warm enough for bacteria to grow while the center is still thawed. Practically, however, for beef and pork, there isn't much danger. Chicken and turkey are a different matter.

Because after it sits out like that is builds dangerous bacteria.. I sometimes thaw mine in a bowl with cold water that works a lil faster but you have to keep changing the water.. or again the same will happen.. It's frustrating though because it takes so long.. but then again i don't freeze meat to often i like to buy it when i am gonna use it to avoid the whole problem.

Because if you thaw it on the counter than the meat wil spoil.

instead of thawing it in the fridge you put it into the sink and then can run hot water on it. only do this if you are eating it or cooking it right away, though.

Its supposed to be "safer"-- bacteria won't be able to multiply in the thawing meat if it is still in the fridge.
