Just be there for them and be understanding. They will need someone to talk to. A very stressful time for all families.
Tell them to remember their mum as she was, not as she is now
. Live with the happy memories not the sad ones.

Attend Dementia support groups with her, be there for her when she needs to express any feelings, you only have to listen even if you dont have any answers

dont intrude by asking questions all the time - they may think you are being insensitive. but when they want to talk about it listen rther than ask questions. as a friend be there to listen to them and offer help but also remember that yor friend may feel a little self conscious of whether you are judging them so you have to show you arent by being there to listen, to entertain or eve just hold their hand if they need you to.

Probably not by posting it all over the internet!
Look on the BBC.co.uk health section it has info on how to deal with certain situations like this.

well you could offer to help in taking the mother on outings as its such a strain doing this on your own... especially if she is in a wheelchair...take your friend out for a break....be there to listen to the dire tales and frustrations...cook them a meal! Just BE THERE!!!

Be interested, be patient, inquire tactfully, visit the mum now and again, offer your services to your friend-tell her you would like to help in anyway she wants. tell her you are there for her if she needs you.

You could offer to look after his/her Mum occasionally, so that he/she can have time on his/her own.
As a Christian I'd also do a bit of praying.
