We destroyed their military in the first Gulf War..... and are now helping them build a new military to protect their new democracy.

We built their militay to be the 4th largest/best in the world when they were at war with Iran for 8 yrs. We have a way of training or future enemies. :o)

Best Wishes,

Sue

The military was disbanded because they were loyal to Saddam. In recent times there has been an attempt to bring back some of the old military personnel, but the Iraqi government is predominantly Shia and they don't want old Sunni Baathist loyalist back in the military.

The net result is that Iraq has a very porrly trained army incapable of fighting the insurgency.

The mitiary under Sadaam suffered massive desertion during the inital invasion.
However the Iraq military since the occupation, began to regroup and reform after a while, as an insurgentcy.

What happened with no one paying the military and little hope to recieve anypay while they continue hostile activities towards the US the army went home and became farmers.

That is/was what's colloquially known as BS or spin.
Iraq was never anything like a world power. They had/have only the power of oil and the money it brings. Comparing Iraq to Germany was/is like comparing a monkey to a banana, ludicrous. The reason you can't win is the same as for the British in the American revolutionary war: they live there, operate as guerrillas and terrorists, don't play by the same rules and will still be there when you go.

Paul Bremer confined the remains of the Iraqi Army to their quarters for a period of time. He then instituted a De-Ba'athification policy which precluded incorporation of the Iraqi Army and Navy into the current force. This was a huge miscalculation on his part. It fomented the insurgency. Bremer was and is the classic Beltway Bandit who felt himself above reproach on his decisions. I had the distinct displeasure of working with his staff in Baghdad. Never have I met a more arrogant and mealy mouthed bunch of suit and tie d*^kheads in my life and I am a Neocon.

Had he incorporated the lower enlisted and officer corps into the new Iraqi Army as we did with the Nazi's and Japanese Imperial Army, we would have had a substantial army of well trained and I might add combat vetted soldiers defending Iraq for a reason not just for conscription.

i'm not precisely the main undemanding guy, yet i've got by no skill been bullied :/ You defiantly ought to be stressful skinned nevertheless, upward push up for what you think, do not decrease to rubble, and don't be an fool. we elect to have exciting and make exciting of one yet another. the sole time somebody gets picked on greater beneficial than others is that in the event that they seem to be a sissy and it for sure upsets that individual. So only study to take it and dish it out while the time comes. every person gets picked on for something at last, yet not likely bullied.

The U.S. and its allies killed off many Iraqi soldiers and disbanded the rest. Then the U.S. and its allies rebuilt the army. I think Iraq will have something like 250,000 soldiers by the end of this year.

Before it was over, they were actually mandated to dissolve. The US was going to use the military to help rebuild, but by the time efforts started they were gone.
