Putting it in room temp. water (or even cold water) will speed up the thawing process. Just make sure the water is NOT warm or it will start the cooking process on the outside of the turkey.

As a rule for defrosting it is 24 hours for every 4 pounds of turkey. That is the refrigerator method. If you need to you can put the turkey in the sink with cold water and alternate breast side up to back every hour and change the water as well.

Try filling your sink or a big tub with water, and putting the wrapped turkey in that. Keep changing the water as it gets cold. You may be better off just buying a fresh turkey tonite and save the frozen one for another time.

You can't start cooking a turkey at 4 pm. You have to cook a turkey for 15-25 minutes per pound depending on how big it is and whether it's stuffed.
