You rockk!!!
keep looking you will find allot of contradiction in the bible.
it is a great history book and has some good stories to teach kids lessons.
The deal is though, you don't go to hell for your sins, you go to hell for not asking forgiveness for those sins, not admitting to the sins. All is forgiven, if you ask for forgiveness.
hell is therefore full of stupid stubborn people.

Hell is not a punishment, it is a choice. If you want to accept Jesus' gift, that's lovely, but if you don't then you choose to go to Hell. It's not that you have to love Jesus or else.He died for us so that we could have the option of going to heaven because there is no way we could have the option otherwise and no matter how much we loved God we'd have to go to Hell.
It's not a bad question actually... I struggled with it for a long time. The comment is a bit snarky, though.

When someone gives you a gift it is yours right? You hold it in your hand to do as you choose. But until you open the gift you have not actually excepted the gift have you?
God sent the gift of Christ to forgive us our sins. His blood is all that is required by God for that forgiveness. But you have to accept the gift first in order to receive it.
Hell was made for satan for his sin against God it was not made for man. But if you do not receive His gift, even if you do not choose to side with satan, then you will spend your eternity in hell. Sort of like the phrase "you are either with me or you are against me." That is why God says he does not like the ones that are lukewarm. Because though they did not side with satan they will still suffer hell with him.
Hope this helps

Except that the forgiveness he offers is not accepted by many people. Without the acceptance of the free gift of Christ's completed work, people have to rely on their own righteousness. And since people can never be good enough to enter Heaven based no their own merits, they go to Hell.

Going to hell is a result of sin, because you cannot be a sinner, and be in the presence (heaven) of a perfect God. If you aren't forgiven, then you have to go to hell.
If you are forgiven, you've accepted the fact that Christ is the substitution for you and your sin, then you can be in the presence of a perfect God.

God forgives all, but you must repent of your sins to be trully forgiven. Otherwise, you could do the same sin over and over with no repentance and God would forgive you each time. That's not how it works.

You are offered forgiveness today. If you reject it, well, hell is too late.
