We just bought one of those dome litter boxes with a door, and at first they were annoyed with it, so I removed the lid. How can I get them used to using it with the lid on?

Put the cats in a bathroom with the box. Keep the lid on the box while they're in there. Sooner or later, if they have nowhere else to do their business, they will use the litterbox with the lid. And also, if there happen to be any "accidents" then it'll be easy to clean up.

If they don't take to the litterbox when they're in the bathroom and that's the only place for them to go, they probably just don't like it.

My kittens never had any problem with getting used to the dome boxes. All I had to do was show them where it was. I think they actually like it because they get their privacy.

Which dome litterbox do you have? You mention one with a door. Is that one with a flap? If so, maybe removing the flap will make them more likely to use the litterbox. I have a "Booda Dome Clean Step" box which has a "door" (with no flap) and even when the lid isn't on, the cat will still use the stairs instead of jumping right out of the book.

Good luck!

Keep the lid on!!!

It took a day or two for my cats to get the courage up to use it but they did--dont give them another option--they will use it!
