Start your homework earlier, Im sure you dont get 6 hours worth of home work a day! You need to get more sleep and then you will learn much more effectively...;

Not being able to concentrate is a sigh of depression. When you fall asleep your body cools down just like a car and when you try to wake up obviously it hard. The best thing you can do to start is working out or taking a walk before bed time. It's OK to have ONE glass of wine before bed time because this is what works for me and not only do I sleep well I wake up rested. Contrary to popular believe and advice from others, anti depressants are not necessary. There are natural ways of solving many problems. You have many options. See how you feel and preform during the next few months and if you have not improved then maybe home schooling is something you should look into. Anyways attacking your concentration and sleeping issues from many different angles at ones and in combination with each other will solve this question. Good look and most importantly believe in yourself !

OK, for a start, doing your homework at school or on the bus on the way home is bad practice (although you probably already know that). I feel your pain, really I do, I'm trying to study too and as a single parent I have heaps of other crap to do too, but I was just as bad when I was at school.

I swear by a little powernap, just after lunch is good or mid-afternoon if you can, whenever you can fit it in. This'll give you a little boost, especially if you're up late. A shower can also work wonders :-)

Also, make sure you finish working by a certain time, and that you have enough time to wind down. Do not sit at the computer all night as you'll just make yourself feel wired, ditto with the TV.

Try some Dr. Stuart's tranquillity tea as well, or a nice Horlicks or Ovaltine. Will knock you out good, baby! AND make sure you're getting enough vitamins...

When I got home from school each day, it was 4.30 and I would sleep from 4.30 until 6pm on the sofa, then get dinner and do homework. I found this "catnap" did me the power of good and recharged the batteries before I started any homework. I did this for 7 years from first to upper sixth year and I think it was great. I know the pressure on kids these days is crazy, but if you have a nap, then 4 hours of homework after beign well rested, will be more useful than 6 hours of homework when not rested properly. Hope this helps. Good luck with your studies.

aww i know how you feel! i stay up late doing homework too partially becuase i cant buckle down and do it for a long time and partly becuase im just slow at it. i go to bed usually anytime from 10 on a good day to 12 but i dont feel the effects that you are feeling i can run on 3 hours of sleep and still be fine. well enough about me... try your hardest to finish your homework as soon as possible and work on it as soon as you get home. also, if there are times at school when you are able to get it done, do it or try to finish as much class work as you can so you will have less to do at home. hang in there buddy you can do it ! :)

have a great thanksgiving and get some rest this weekend!

I have the same problem, only I just don't feel tired enough to sleep late at night, but feel like poo in the morning.
Why do you get home so late? If you go on a bus or something then maybe you can attempt to do your homework then? Your homework really shouldn't be taking so long, but I'm sure your teachers would understand and give you some extra time to do it if you explain that it is taking you so long that you don't even have time to sleep.
Good luck xx

Set a time when you're absolutely going to finish work and go to sleep. Make sure the room is dark and not full of distractions. Write down everything on your mind - like what you have to do tommorrow etc), then think of an endless road or something really boring.

Then as soon as you wake up - get up - open the curtains, let in the light. Get straight up without thinking about it, jump in the shower or have breakfast - whatever works best for you.

Make sure you stick to it though. Hope it helps.

That happens to me. Right now in High School it is very HARD for us to go to sleep. I don't know. Take a warm shower and start to do your homework really early so that way you can go to bed early.

Do some of your homework at school and then go to bed at 9 instead of 11. You'll feel a lot better.
