This site seems to imply you can be a student with a green card. If you are interested in reading it gives good information on how to keep your status even if you need to come in and out of the country. Seems to be a big deal that you file income tax.

Honestly, it depends on your state. Someone in CA will have an easier time than someone in say, Georgia. Check with the requirements of your college first concerning residency and foreign students.
