If she told you that she has the virus that causes cold sores.

Would you stay or would you go?

How big of a deal is that in the dating community?

The virus that causes cold sores is one of the many Herpes virus strains. It can be one of the viruses that can be easily controlled the proper medication but if it is one of the more complex ones, such as Herpes Simplex I,II,or III, then it is serious.

It is a matter that should not be taken lightly! Whether you stay or go is totally up to you but considering the age I surmise you are, I would steer clear of that person and thank her for being so honest.

That and all other related matters are of vital importance in the 'dating' community and for that matter, in any other. Many kids don't take it seriously but be smart and consider all the consequences that can come from irresponsible behavior.

Herpes simplex is the virus that causes cold sores.
The veneral disease Genital Herpes is a different virus. Chicken pox come from a Herpes virus Herpes zoster which is different from the other 2.

I would want more information and unless it is clarified stay away from her. She might have the Genital Herpes and some people just think it is the same virus that causes cold sores. If somebody just has cold sores occasionally this is not Herpes
venereal disease. Somebody can one without having the other.

Kitten...the virus that causes cold sores is called HERPES.

Herpes simplex 1 is what causes cold sores, and CAN be transmitted to the genital area through sexual contact.

Honesty is a big deal in the dating community. Honestly some people will be wigged out by that statement. Others won't be. Perhaps your main focus should be educating yourself about this disease, and how to care for yourself...cause its not going to go away...

How old are you? NINE!
Its only a big deal if its sitting right there on your lip and your ready to give a big wet smoochy kiss.
about 98.9% of humans carry a virus that can cause a cold sore or canker....and about 95% are never affected.....trust me....keep some cold sore medicine on hand.....don't kiss anyone if you have a flare up....you should be good.

It's called herpes. Good question. Um, probably not, but depending on the type of herpes, it's not that big of a deal. Most people have some sort of latent herpes virus in their body, some never even get cold sores.

Cold sores are a different type of virus than genital herpes. If it's just cold sores I can wait. If it's genital herpes I'd have to know if she's on cylclovir and she'd have to be honest about feeling an outbreak coming on. Given that, I'm OK with it though I might ask her to have an AIDS test with me.

Honey cold sores are a virus that eevryone has that is how we can contract it to one another. Kinda like the flu or the common cold! We all hold viruses and bacteria in our bodies and that allows us to catch things from the air and other people!! Did you know that we can get Chlamidia from a parrot and or certain kinds of birds....but does that stop people from owning them..NO!! I have always gotten cold sores my whole life because my mom, grandma, and even great grandma got them as well, i simply got it through her genes. getting cold sores is a part of your life, and it has never stopped me from having a boyfriend or going on dates.

Really almost everyone has the mouth kind and like 60% of people have the other kind. I wouldn't have a problem but would of course avoid contact when sores start to crop up and cross my fingers.

ugh I'm not a guy, but I wouldn't not go out with someone for this reason. And besides they're only liable to spread if you're infected. And that's what like 5% of your life.....so what about cold sores, I just got over 2 of them, they suck, but that's life.
