I was going to stay at the Oriental or Shangri-la but it seems kind of silly to spend that kind of money since I will be out of the hotel touring the city both of the days I am there. I will really only be in the hotel in the morning and at night.

Sukhumvit area, I recommend Novotel Lotus. Silom area, Silom Serene, and Rachada area, Mercure Fortune. All of them are close to BTS(Sky train) or MRT(subway) station, shopping centers or department stores are nearby. If you wish, naughty nightlife is also nearby. Not hi-so type but clean and sufficient. Pools, business centers, or in-room-safe are equipped. Rooms are about $60 to $80 tax, service, breakfast inclusive. I stayed there and was satisfied.

Depending on where you want to stay, there are many hotels to choose from. If you're planning to come for shopping and sightseeing, I'll suggest you stay on Sukhumvit road, the heart of the city, where you can get many restaurants and malls and where BTS skytrain is easily accessible. Most hotels on Sukhumvit road are also cheaper than the Oriental and Shangri-la, which are located by the riverside and would be harder for you to travel around using public transportation.

If you want the best value for money, I'll suggest 3 star Hotels, Manhattan Hotel on Sukhumvit 15 and Ambassador Bangkok, located right in the heart of the city.

Other hotel suggestions, which is more expensive but still moderated priced are Grand Mercure Park Avenue Bangkok and Novotel Lotus located on Sukhumvit road.

I think it's best if you check out www.excelloz.com, where you can get a description of each hotel in Bangkok, location, hotel reviews, price and availability. It should be of great use.

Lynn,

Check out this site http://www.visualthailand.com

Commercial and Ad free

Rama Gardens Hotel Exectutive Rooms are US $66 with free continental breakfast buffet if you book on www.asiarooms.com

The other rooms there are no where near as nice but around $36

Rama Gardens hosts the Thailand Womens Professional Tennis Tournament each year and is very nice hotel with an exceptional pool and swim up bar.

If you only need a nice clean place to crash check out the Business Inn on Soi 11/1 600 thai baht per night and many foreigners stay there, is clean and very safe, right in the middle of the action. Its a bed and shower, but in Thailand, if you do not plan on being in a hotel very much because of sightseeing etc, then this is the place to save money to do even more shopping

Http://www.visualthailand.com has more free information and is so easy to read for all the hotspots and things you should know and visit

Coz those are river-side hotels, so U had better choose somewhere in the City such as Hilton Bangkok, Narai Hotel (Nai Lert Park, Bangkok) or any 4 star hotels that near by Skytrain
