Hi Emily,
I would start with one of the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.
Write down the things you learn about God from what you have read.
Here are some verses that are helpful these are the words of Jesus, who is God and the Son of God;
Matthew 4:4 "Man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'
Mark 10:15 "Truly I say to you ,whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all."
Luke 6:20 And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say "blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God."
John 1:1 and 3:16
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Read the bible ask questions, check the answers against the Word of God.
Please feel free to email me if you have questions along the way.
God Bless.

Read the book of John. If you seek God, you will find Him. "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you". If old English is hard for you, you may want to look at a Bible other that the King James to start with. Maybe something like The Living Bible or the New American Standard Bible. The Living Bible is a paraphrase, and the New American Standard is more word for word, except easier to understand... in our modern English.
The Bible isn't read as a book as such, front to back,... but it is many small books that relate to each other.

Sometimes, I just let the bible fall open where ever, and read, it usually has relevance to my worries. I was reading other answers. If you do read the 4 gospels, understand that it is the same story, told from 4 different perspectives. I saying because I used to get so confused over that. I hope you find answers.

What helped me was the story of Abraham. That guy trusted God to the very end. He would do anything that God told him to and God never let him down. Reading about Abraham and Sarah and how many times God came through for him really helped me through my trust issues. Maybe it'll help you. Also, the other people on here are right. Go experience God too. Talk, listen, write, observe. Who was it that wrestled with God all night? I can't remember, Joseph? Anyway...that's a story that shows that God loves people who question and argue. He doesn't take offense.

Read the Gospel of John or the Book of Romans.
Also read "The Purpose Driven-Life" by Rick Warren. Very clear, filled with scripture, answers tons of questions.
God Bless.

Start with Genesis, and read on. Look at the Bible as a history of G-d and His people. Put yourself in the picture, as part of the equation toward working toward a more perfect world.

the gospel of JOHN is the best place to start; then go to beginning of the new testament which starts with Matthew and don't forget to read the book of john as you travel through the gospels
first you must say a pray start a relationship with lord. the only way to GOD is by JESUS he is the way, truth and the light. YOU must confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that JESUS died for you

read John 3:16
If you feel the need to find God. It is a good sign that God is trying to reach you. Put your trust and faith in Jesus now. And ask Him to come into your heart.
Jesus said:
John 3:15
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:14-16 (in Context) John 3 (Whole Chapter)
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
