Poetgirl is right on. I've been reading alot of studies that suggest that many cases of mood disorders may be due to a lack of omega-3 fatty acids. Walnuts are high in them. So are flaxseeds and flaxseed oil. But the best source is fatty fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel. If you hate fish you can take fish oil capsules. But get the coated ones that dissolve in your small intestine otherwise you'll get "fish burps". Omega 3's also have consistently been shown to reduce risk of heart disease, some cancers and inflammatory conditions.

Ashton,

I empathize with your depression. I have had trouble with it for many years. The thing about the nuts is new to me, and I've heard just about everything.

Maybe it means if you eat the "nuts" there won't be any left to complain about being depressed I hope you could laugh at that joke.

Seriously, you may need to see a Dr and get an anti-depressant. Sometimes depression is a physical disease, not a mental one.

Some nuts, like almonds, are very high in Omega-3 which can help lift/balance your mood...but it is not going to make a drastic difference and if you are really suicidal, you really should talk to somebody. Nuts alone are not going to solve the problem. Increasing omega-3 in the diet is helpful overall and often suggested for bipolar patients. There are a bunch of other foods that are high in omega-s...like salmon and spinach.

Life has no guarantees. If you like to read a lot, your writings would be better than those who doesn't read. But that doesn't guarantee you to become a decent writer. What if you only like to read and not write? Then you can't be a writer, right?
