I want a new digital camera for Christmas and I want to know if a 3 mega pixel camera would be a good choice.
This is the camera I'm thinking of getting:

While a 3 MP camera is not necessarily a bad choice (many will say you need at least 5 MP, but this is only true if you plan on printing large prints). I won a photo competition with a 2 MP camera a couple of years ago, and have been quite happy with the results for general picture taking and publishing to my blog.

BUT, Phillips are not noted for the quality of their cameras. Admittedly the price is attractive, but you would be better to add a bit to the available funds (or ask for it as a combined birthday and Xmas present??) and look for a Canon or other "better" brand. You can keep the price down by still looking for a camera with a 3 MP rating ... just a better lens, etc. And even consider a used camera. There are many well built older cameras available from people who have "traded up". I suggest looking in a camera store that takes trades rather than eBay.

"Better" cameras would have a faster lens, optical (rather than digital) zoom, better colour accuracy, etc.

See the link for some reviews ... they should give you some ideas.

The important thing is to consider what is important to you. What will you use it for? Decide that and you can make a much better choice as to whether a $60 camera is good enough for you (it may be). But remember, you may quickly find you want something better.

Hope this helps.

A 3 mp camera would be cheap but it wouldnt take good quality pictures. You have to decide what your buying it for. If you plan on just using the camera for vacation shots or simple everyday photos then a 5 mp camera would probably be a better choice. It might cost more, but is worth it. I would try to get a Canon camera. They are always reliable and good quality.

3 mp is fine for most casual shots. If you can find a camera on sale that has 4 or 5 mp go for it. Stay with Canon.

Depends on what you do with your pictures 3MP are ok but prices keep coming down so try and spot say 5MP in your budget look for shop clearance sales/internet.
My 1st digital in 2000 was 5MP and was £450 in duty free!!
