I am going to bargain hunt for a vintage/antique coffee table at either a thrift store, goodwill, salvation army, or somewhere in that range of stores. Which would I be most likely to find a coffee table in?

The places you mentioned will most likely have coffee tables, but they will be old rather than antique or vintage. Try a consignment store. They usually have better quality items.

I would definitely try www.craigslist.org.

It is basically an online classified site with amazing deals on beautiful furniture. I have furnished almost my whole apartment using this site. Some areas have less activity and therefore fewer goods, but it is worth a shot. Just go to the site, click on your metropolitan area, then under for sale, click on furniture. Just to be safe, since you will be buying directly from someone, either make sure to meet in a public place or bring someone with you to pick up the item.

Good luck and happy craigslisting!

Sometimes they don't have one but keep going back. It took many trips to Sally's (Salvation Army) to find all of my furniture. I got a dresser for $5 a couch for $10 phone table $5 coffee table $5. I love my furniture, it's real wood and looks good enough for me. I am a tightwad, and poor.

It depends what you're looking for. Do you want the vintage look or the vintage age? In other words, would you take a beat up 1960 knock-off that you could refrubish instead of a piece from that era?

I made my own coffee table by buying an old kitchen table and sawing off the legs. It was an oak table w turned legs. Nice, but not too valuable or expensive.

I would go to an Antique Mall first! And check your classified ads in the paper!

ALL OF THOSE STORES RELY ON DONATIONS, SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THINGS THAT THEY HAVE THERE. I KNOW I WORK IN A RESALE SHOPE. TO SAVE YOU TIME YOU CAN GIVE THEM A CALL AHEAD OF TIME AND ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY TABLES. GOOD LUCK. TRY THE ANTIQUE STORES TOO.
