It's not certain how long somebody can give you mono, however the most I've ever heard is up to 6 months after they become infected.
Mono is passed directly from saliva to saliva. While it is possible to get it from dishes that you are sharing or haven't been washed properly it is not as common.
If he had mono five years ago you should be in the clear from him, but you could always get it from somebody who has had it more recently.

He is Probably Not Terribly Contagious for EBV, a Herpesvirus, I personally, if he had a Strong immune Response to the Virus, Think No, Memory Cells for the Prior Infection Could Be Expected to Remain Around for a Long Time.

probally not from him, unless he gets it again.. and remember Mono isnt just from kissing.. you can get Mono from anything that has any public useage with germs... like a water fountain, even sliver wear at a restraunt if they dont get washed right.... and Mono is a ***** leaves you really sick and weak,,

it takes lots more than just knowing someone to get it.
and yes a person can get mono more than one time even though doctors argue this between themselves

no- its like a cold- he is only contagious when he has it same with mono!!!

You can only get this if he has it while you are with him,kissing him ect.... Other wise there is nothing to be concern about. I believe they call it the kissing disease.
