Nobody is forced to celebrate Thanksgiving, or any other holiday, but people enjoy taking a day off now and again to be with friends and family, so most stores are closed on Thanksgiving. What happens on Cinco de Mayo in your area?

I'm sorry, but you using the word United Statesian shows me how uneducated you are and therefore, I cannot take you seriously. Go read a book on the history of this country. You might learn a thing or two about Thanksgiving. Yes it is about people in the United States, we live in the United States. What do you expect. A majority of people in this country aren't forced to take Thanksgiving off. They want to take it off. Who is it unfair to? If illegals don't like it, then they should just go back. You migrated here, so learn the language and accept the culture. What makes your race so superior? What makes you think you can go around changing people's ways of life just because you don't agree with it? You might be able to take advantage of this country's system, but you can't change the beliefs of the true citizens of this country. There are 300 million people in this country that are laughing in your face right now. We're not gonna cancel Christmas or the 4th of July either so get over it.

Thanksgiving has a lot to do with our heritage. It originally celebrated the merging of two cultures, which (at least in Massachusetts, where the first Thanksgiving allegedly occurred) was more friendly than the whole Spanish conquest thing in Mexico. For most people nowadays, it is simply a time to appreciate our families and all that we have.
Nobody's forcing you to celebrate. Just enjoy the day off and try to think about the meaning of the holiday--appreciating what you have.

Just because business's are closed, does NOT mean YOU are being "Forced" to celebrate Thanksgiving.
And if you really have that big of a problem with the US's holidays then maybe you should consider moving to a new country or go back to Mexico.....

Well.. that's like saying why do businesses and stuff close on national holiday on Mexico.. people from other countries that are in Mexico are forced to stay home or whatever. It's not just here, it's everywhere that people have holidays, close down most of the town, etc.

It is annoying when you need to go to a market, or buy a shirt, or want to rent a DVD or whatever. But I think you have a few things wrong here.
1. Nobody is forcing anyone to celebrate thanksgiving. You have a day off, do what you want with it.
2. Thanksgiving is not about people in the U.S. It is about a special day to give thanks for what we have in our lives. For people in the U.S. refer to President's day, Memorial Day, Columbus day, etc.
3. The businesses neither want nor don't want stuff to be closed. They want to make money. If they think they will, they will be open. Convenience stores are open. Gas stations are open. Many restaurants are open.
4. You cannot be fair or unfair to everyone. That's life. If all the businesses were open, that would be unfair to people that wanted a day to spend with their families. We have holidays in this country. That's the way it is.

We don't, and if you are from Mexico you should understand that you were born in America too. Just not the United States. And as for fair, we celebrate Cinco de Mayo too.

I will have a great Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, but no one is forcing me to eat.
If you're from Mexico and like the Mexican way better, you're in luck. All you have to do is go back to Mexico. It's strange that the idea didn't occur to you.

Well GO BACK TO MEXICO if you don't like it.
We have to put up with your stinking cico de mayo and it sure as heck doesn't have a place in USA culture.
Just another example of how you all from mexico DO NOT want to assimilate into the American culture.

The Waffle House is open 365 days a year. If you don't want to participate in a Turkey dinner for Thanksgiving, go to WH and have them cook for you.
