If it's a print photograph you can scan it in. If you don't have a scanner...simply find a friend who does. You have to save the image once its scanned as a .jpeg file to make it useful on most websites. Most scanners allow you to scan images at pretty high resolutions..(the bigger the resolution for example : 300ppi on a 8x11 photograph would be very big..around 11 to 15MB per file. If you want it just for online display, you can put it at 72ppi for smaller upload size. Depending on where you want to upload, most sites have a help section on how to upload your files to their site. If not, you can probably email them and they will be happy to help. You can use sites like Webshots.com to upload one big photo and they will resize to all different sizes for your display needs..including thumbnail and avatar sizes. Hope this helps!

To turn a regular paper photo into a digital photo you need a scanner. A scanner is kind of like a copier except it saves the result to a file that is saved to your computer. Some scanners even come with attachments that can read your negatives and turn them into digital photos.

It depends on the website how you upload your photos but usually there is a link on the website that will open a dialog to upload your pictures

Funny that I should run across this question. As my Mother's Day gift to my three daughters - adults with children of their own - I spent the month before Mother's Day photocopying every old photograph (everything from photos of very old family oil portraits, to Victorian tintypes to early sepia photos to Kodak shots from the 40's and 50's to modern school photos, etc.) It turned out to be a very thick photo essay of SIX generations - a photoessay of a families history that only was possible because SOMEONE SOMEWHERE went to a studio or an portrait artist and had a face immortalized and then WROTE a name on the back of the photo and passed it onto the next generation by PHYSICALLY HANDING it to them before they died. I am totally DEDICATED to the use of the camera that yields an image on paper - hard copy of human data. If you don't have the image in your hand and can visually scan it with our own two eyes and immediately know it's value...it's lost. Old photos are TREASURE - and ONLY if there is a NAME and a date on the back of it.

Scan the photograph first. If you are just putting it up for web viewing only, scan at 72 dpi. If you are uploading to a photofinishing site, scan it at 300 dpi for 5x7 or smaller. Save the file as a jpeg file. The website should have instructions for uploading to it.

Best way to go is to buy a digital camera. Usually they come with the plug and cd that you need to transfer them over to your computer. Install the cd on your computer, plug your cord into the computer and camera, and you should be able to install whatever pics you've taken onto your computer and save them. From there, you can post them on the web, or send them via email to someone. Good luck!!!

You can get a photo scanned and transferred to digital media at most pharmacies and many superstores such as Wal-Mart & K-Mart.

If you have a scanner or access to one, you can do it yourself easily. Just make sure the settings are set to scan a photo.

You buy a digital camera then take the pictures and download them from your camera to your computer. Then you upload them to wherever you want online.
