I live in Essex (Rayliegh) and its very safe and often walk around at night. I have just come from Hayes in Middlesex and that was really bad!! I come from South London originally and that had got bad too!!

"upmystreet.com" is a good web site..it tells you all about local area, crime rates, schools and what type of people live in the community

Good Luck

Unfortunately, there are good and bad areas in every place in the country. I live in a little town on the main road and feel quite safe, yet, if I lived on my own near to where my parents live I wouldn't. There are many different factors that can make one feel safe or not such as neighbours, actual location of home etc.

I used to work in Harlow and it wasn't particularly nice. Hatfield I've heard is very nice though.
Don't know about the other places on the list tho.

This website might help give you more general info about the places.

Why must it be near London?
Bristol is the place to be, good life/night life, plenty of good jobs, shopping, green areas, nice homes and friendly poeple.
